CS and Steam's Half-Life Premier Pack

Why would valve sell the "premeir pack" thought Steam, which includes Half Life and every Steam game exept CZ, and also not include CS which is free if you bought retail Half Life? It shouldnt make a difference since your still buying HL either way.



More people need to get in the know, you can get HL for 20 dollars brand new and get every game on Steam exept for CZ, but if they buy the premeir pack from Valve which includes HL, at twice the price in stores you wont get access CS. Kind of dumb Valve would do that.

and i bought cz the first day that came out on steam,



its excelllent being me i get CS1.6 twice, and i get to beta test CS:S, and i "might" even get CZ:S free, hehe

Same here, have HL and CZ. Actually I only bought CZ for the HL2 footage. Oh by the way, shut up folks. You're still getting 10 games or so for 100 dollars. That's dirt cheap. If valve wanted to go Microsoft, they'd charge 30 dollars a game. Or 70 dollars for CS.

I bought the original Half-Life way back in 1999. Afterwards I bought a premier pack in the stores around 2002. I used the latter for my Steam CD-Key.



So today I decided to try out my original CD Key with Steam. It gave me Half-Life with all mods including Counter-Strike.



Morale of the story is that if you want Half-Life + Counter-Strike with Steam, go out and buy Half-Life from the store for dirt cheap, and enter the CD Key on Steam.

...but you think that valvE would WANT people to buy and download from Steam. I mean that was the point of Steam right? So you think it would be cheaper threw Steam and you would get CS. Not the other way around (at a store)



So what the point of Steam again?

If you buy Half-Life in the store, lets say the GOTY edition for like $10, you get HL and all of its mods. Apparently if you buy it over Steam, you get HL, but no CS.

People are not complaining about the price so much. They are complaining about how VALVe is really trying to con them. Some of the less informed people who may wish to get on the Counter Strike scene may think that this Premier Pack is a good idea so they waste an extra 20 dollars and don't even get what they wanted in the first place, Counter Strike! Also, if you look at the picture of the Premier Pack purchasing process, you will notice you are not buying anything other than Half Life with Opposing Force. All the rest are just free mods. I can go down to the store and buy Opposing Force and Half Life for about 20 dollars CANADIAN! The prices VALVe are asking for are in American currency. I am sorry VALVe, but you need to wise. Stop turning people away just for a quick buck otherwise no one will buy HL2 or any of your future games. And for what, a few thousand more dollars? Look at the responses this idea has received. I'm sure that there will be posts about this over at Steampowered.com declaring this whole premise a failure. The average consumer is neither dumb or gullible. Do not treat us like we are.

New players, who as the_expertx4 said, who want to get into HL and CS and dont know too much about it will get turned off by stuff like this and also as he said, they likely wont buy HL2 because they'll associate Steam and Valve with something bad.

This is just stupid for $10 (or £10 quid over here in england which is basically twice the price *cough*rippoff*cough*) you can buy hl in a shop and get everything except for Condition Zero, or you can pay $35 and get everything except for Condition Zero and counter-strike. Its the most stupid pricing system I've ever seen.

I wonder if this is a result of contract obligations with publishers to not undercut them or if it's really just valve screwing the pooch. Doesn't seem to make much sense.
