CS and Steam's Half-Life Premier Pack

Note: Earlier, we reported this story as if it were a recent change. There have been no changes in how Steam sells Half-Life. The post immediately below this note reflects the correction.

Buying the Half-Life Premier Pack sold via Steam (faq: what is Steam) won't net you Counter-Strike. If you want to acquire Counter-Strike via Steam, you will have to either buy Counter-Strike: Condition Zero using the online distribution program or buy Half-Life/CZ in a store. This only affects new CS customers.

Apparently Counter-Strike has never been included in the list of games that come with the Half-Life Premier Pack sold on Stream. The two packages sold on Steam are a) HL & everything excluding CS and CZ (Premier Pack, see this image), b) CS and CZ. HL Premier Pack has only been available via Steam within the last month or so and has never included Counter-Strike. See this Steampowered.com thread for more details.

So, basically, this is a news post informing the community that if you buy Half-Life Premier Pack via Steam, you ain't getting Counter-Strike. The definition for premier may be up for debate to some new customers!

Again, we've confirmed with Valve that if you buy or have bought any of the numerous Half-Life titles in stores, you will absolutely receive Counter-Strike once you apply your CD-KEY to your Steam account.[break="click here to read an inaccurate story"]Counter-Strike has been removed from Steam's purchasable Half-Life. Up until recently, customers who bought Half-Life via Steam automatically received Counter-Strike and other Valve-supported mods for free (see image, note that CS is gone). If a new customer wants to play CS they will need to purchase Counter-Strike: Condition Zero via Steam or possibly buy one of the Half-Life family games (including CZ) in stores.

Current Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Condition Zero players are not affected by this change.

Counter-Strike has always been free for Half-Life customers, so hopefully this was an oversight on Valve's part that will be fixed soon. If this was intentional, it's not likely to earn Valve any positive press.

That would very much suck. However, does anyone actually buy the game still, doesn't everyone that needs the game already have it by this time?

Time for new users to use GCFScape and use CS as a third party mod... Valve is just causing more troubles trying to make more money.

valve realise that nobody plays HL any more, so why not sell CS as a seperate entity? its all business..sigh.

Since there isn't any information about this at the moment in valve's press releases, i am skeptical that they will remove cs from the half-life platinum pack. It could be just a minor bug from a recent update. We'll just have to wait and see.

Im glad I created a Steam account a few days ago and got the CS cache's, and didnt wait. I dont play CS 1.6, but if I would have waited a few more days I would have to buy CZ. I guess I lucked out.

Also, I will mention that this is in fact ture. I read a thread a few hours ago at the steampowered forums where someone bought the platinum pack and couldnt play CS thru Steam. Taylor Sherman emailed him back and told him that CS isnt included in it, even though its on the freaking box.
