Wait, I found an error. In the FAQ, you said that HL2 will support DX6, but that's not true. It's DX7.

/EDIT: Maybe I'm interpreting the phrase ("can be scaled back to accomodate cards all the way back to the DirectX 6 generation.") wrong.

Great stuff guys. The FAQ was needed and having the movies all in one place is fantastic.

In a recent interview with Doug Lombardi, he was able to state the minmum system requirements.

[Doug Lombardi] The min spec is:

                    1.2 GHz Processor

                    256MB RAM

                    DirectX 7 level graphics card

                    Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

                    Mouse

It could just be that Half-Life 2 is only scalable to DX7, but the Source engine itself can go back to 6 at least. It could also be that the information provided on the Valve page is slightly outdated, but those are the core facts on the engine itself right there.

Perhaps that's the minimum for Half-Life 2 and not the Source engine? Fairly minor detail, though.

The interview was done only a few weeks ago. Even if the Source engine were able to scale back to DX6, why wouldn't HL2 have support for it. It doesn't make logical sense to me.

Yes, but he's stating the minimum for Half-Life 2. As said, it could still be that just the Source engine is capable of going back to DX6 whereas Half-Life 2 can only go back to 7 due to it needing various features only found in 7 and above.
