In my opinion, the shield makes play very unbalanced in favour of the ct's. If you're going to keep it, then you need to make sure that there aren't any glitches or problems, and also seriously consider giving the terrorists something in return, maybe even letting them buy shields as well.

K, I started reading this about an hour ago; I got half way and another page was added soooo . . . I'm skipping top the end of it and giving my opinion.
Keep it. If some people dont like then they can disable it. It is simple to kill a shielder.
It would awesome and fair to add molotov cocktails to T's that way u can hit the shielder n his shield will catch on fire thus "blockin" his/her view. Also it would be nice if it had a health bar (a long lasting one) but penetrable by awps and paras (making small damage.) A last thing that can be added would be the feeling of shakin the shield when it gets hit. i.e. if u shoot the top left corner of shield then the bottom right corner is vulnerable. That simple.
CS:S engine has a MUCH (hopefully) more advanced technology than the one for CS. It would be interesting to see in-play. Guess only time will tell whether the shield should go with CS:S. But for the mean time keep it. Adapt, improvise, & overcome (and stop whinning you sissies.)Comment

I think i am one of the few that accually like it. Other than the fact that the shield is really buggy, I think the shield adds a new and different element to the game.
For source they should add gun models on the body. If you have you main weapon out your accual pistol should show and if you have your pistol or knife out your main weapon should be on your back.Comment

A few facts.
A) Cliffe reads these comments threads but rarely ever replies, except possibly to well-presented logical arguements. I don't envy him reading /this/ long thread, though.
B) Nothing was mentioned about removing the shield from 1.6 and CZ. However, assuming that CS:S has a better engine and less bugs with the shield, perhaps it could be placed in CS:S and removed from 1.6/CZ. It's a thought.
C) When the shield is enabled on a server, few people use it. Even if you have mastered shielding, you cannot take on more than one enemy by yourself; unless you're a crackshot with a pistol, they're gonna kill you. 1v1 combat is also very hard, however the shielder can sometimes win, especially if the non-shielder is very newbie to shield-fighting tactics. 2v1 combat should (and is) always odds against the 1, regardless of how many shields are involved and who has them.
D) 2 nades kill a shielder if they land close enough. Perhaps simply letting nades do extra damage to shielders (or cause them to drop it, as suggested by others). This option is for the 'cannot go around' times (like inside a vent or some such, to shielders side by side).
E) The knife does not go THROUGH the shield, regardless of what you may have heard. If it ever seems to, it's probably the hitbox glitch where the shielder was about to open his shield to shoot but is instantly vulnerable for before the shield seems open. I've also seen lag do the same effect (the shielder is running backwards with closed shield and the knifer seems to go through it). For knifing shielders, you've gotta go around it; it isn't hard to do.
F) The most effective use of shields involves running scout for your team, reporting enemy positions, and being a decoy while your teammates shoot the enemy, or come from across the map. None of these are particularly 'deadly' to the enemy. Which means that the most 'annoying' factor of the shield (bugs aside) is your target simply not dying or taking damage when you shoot it. Which is the point of the shield in the first place.
G) There are several ways of killing shielders, but the hardest part about killing them is their move speed; they just run away. This is quite easily countered, considering the shielder's field of vision sucks, and he's running backwards so he's not even seeing where he's going. If that wasn't enough, shots from certain guns slow him right down even if he doesn't take damage from it, making it easy to flank.
H) Overall, the biggest gripes about the shield fall into two categories:
1 - It's buggy so I'm gonna ban it so it can't be exploited (like the leagues do).
2 - It's new, I don't like it, it slows things down, it's too hard to kill, it's unrealistic, not even an awp goes through...in other words I can't kill the shielder the exact same way I kill everyone else, meaning I don't want to adapt my tactics in any means, manner, shape, or form; I should kill exactly the way I've killed for 5 years - find, aim & shoot.
Anyone who's in the #2 arguement should be ignored except for the possible idea of wanting to 'give them what they want'. Arguements from the #1 category count, but again, we're talking about CS:Source here, and hopefully the new engine would remove all bugs.
I) The only thing remaining is how to balance the shield, once the bugs are removed. That could be anything from size, movement speed, less or even no protection while shooting, a 15 second delay between switching between open and closed, getting shot automatically closes the shield...tweaked and balanced so that it doesn't cause factual problems of any kind, only opinionated ones.Comment

the shield had its days in 1.6 and everyone complained about its unfairness and unrealitic ways... if u guys want to keep it make it so that the awp and para(and maybe the m60 if its ever put in thr game :)
go thru it but with half the damage so it would take 2 awp shots or like 5 para hits and then i will be satisfied with it being more realistic
If the above is never implamented GIVE IT THE BOOT IN CS:S
I have been playing HL since its debute and love the engine of HL and CS (i already have HL2 on preorder) and cant wait for HL2 but i sure would hate it if someting so bad would happen to cs:s since i kno its gong to be a great game and with the shield gone a lot of 1.5ers would once again return to the community :)]
Those are my 2 cents, with a veteran of 6 years...(but as of 7/4/04 the shield can still be glitched/exploited i wont tell how to but u can once again buy ALLL the primary weapons and still have a shield

All this talk of realism and balance in CS is absurd. In what world can one take, say, even 30% damage -- from enemy lead projectiles and still leap about with no ill effect other than how much more damage it will take to finish the job? In the otherwise lame Tactical Ops you bleed when wounded and even though it doesn't affect your physical mobility you at least leave a blood trial for the enemy to follow.
As for the shield, the sheer force of impact from a single .50 caliber bullet, let alone a steady stream of .45 or 9mm, should inconveniece a shield wielder with more than just a shower of sparks. Although tactically sound, both the shield and the AWP often come across ingame as tools of the cowardly.
Meanwhile, I find endless amusement in CS gun models made by people who have no idea how the weapon they're modeling actually functions. Ejection port dust covers flapping open and closed with every shot (default M4), bolts disappearing downward into the magazine well rather than compressing backward into the receiver (a recent TMP reskin), closed bolts with cocking levers in the open position (MAC-10), animations showing completely superfluous movements (charging the M4, and others, on hot reload when the bolt actually stays open on an empty mag and needs only to be released on a fresh one)...
I still think it's absurd that the MAC-10 doesn't have a sound suppressor, not only because the threaded barrel to accept one was an integral design from the beginning but because it's a safe and logical way to hold the weapon with your supporting hand. I know LEOs who lost thumb tips by accidentally letting their left thumbs climb up in front of unsuppressed MAC barrels.
Not to mention, of course, the Going Deaf factor you'd have to deal with firing any of these weapons indoors or out with no hearing protection.
Niggling details, admittedly, but noticeable to those who know the difference.
And, yes, if I could do any better I would.Comment
