Some of you guys are a trip. Half-Life Source and Half-Life Radio have reported this news for the past 2 weeks. They just confirmed it with Doug Lombardi and now people like, "wait, they didn't say FALL!" and splitting words.
Doug Lombardi was quoted on Half-Life Radio that the game would be on store shelves by the fall. What part of that do SOME OF YOU not understand? Good grief!

Valve's unending (and unprofitable) support of the mod community. Valve's unprecedented (and also unprofitable) commitment to updating a game, which as you noted is six years old. No other company does that. And yes, I put CS: Condition Zero in the "quality" category. Rather than let Rogue, Gearbox, and Ritual make games that were not up to snuff, Valve kept spending money, eventually taking it upon themselves and Turtle Rock Studios to make the best game they possibly good, when their developers are already unquestionably busy. What they came out with was, in my opinion, just about the best single-player Counter-Strike experience one could develop. Excellent AI, graphics that push the (yes, dated) graphics engine to its limits, as well as the Deleted Scenes, in case you wanted an "Opposing Force" style of CS. Steam is one of the most innovative ideas I've seen in a long time. The integrated server browser, the Friends system that lets you easily look up and communicate with other players, and the instant, no hassle updates are all brilliant. So yes, I guess I would say Valve is committed to quality.
LOL! Valve does not know game quality! Valve's idea of game quality was their initial release of CZ (Yes, we've all tried to forget it...).
All Valve knows is rhetoric! The original HL2 release date was"Summer 03", but then some hackers exploited Valve's stupidity. The hackers told the CS community how much of HL2 was really done, and the HL2 date was pushed to "Winter 03". Then came "Jan 04", "Feb 04", "Spring 04", "Summer 04", and now "Fall 04".
The truly sad thing about this is that Valve has had the money, the fanbase (most popular online multiplayer game), and the time (HL was released in 1998) to create an awesome sequel to the original (that was released over 6 years ago). But instead they have chosen to piss off the gaming community with broken promises and inferior graphics (Doom 3 and Unreal Engine 3 look unbelievably better). And don't even get me started about steam...

I think you're also the first person I've seen to complain that HL2 has "inferior graphics." The game looks gorgeous, and Valve had the foresight to scale them so they'll run on systems that probably aren't gonna handle Doom 3 at all.
Graphics are not the final determinant of game quality. When I pick of HL2, I'll be judging it by its storyline and gameplay. The storyline of course is being kept a secret, but I like what I've seen so far. The gameplay also looks excellent, particularly the possibilities raised by the new physics engine. By contrast, I'm not really excited about Doom 3 at all. Sure it looks pretty, but the plot is a retread (I'm sure more in-depth, but a retread nonetheless) off the original Doom, and the characters look like they were designed by a hyperactive 7-year old. I mean come on...upside-down skulls with spider legs? I confess that I haven't had enough interest to download videos and check out the gameplay.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're an idiot.

Retard. Valve didn't even make Condition Zero. Who're you to say they're gonna screw up HL2? Just because some other developer screwed up a previous game?
For that matter, if they released it years ago, the game would've had inferior graphics, technology, storyline, ad-nauseum. TIME = QUALITY. What's so hard to understand about that concept? If they're gonna delay it, it only means IT'S GOING TO GET BETTER. Gawd...

Vi3tSkl11 wrote..In other words. The game should be better than what it is, and no i don't only like graphics but when it comes to this day and age, it should have better ones. And cs's graphics dont bother me cuz its a mod of a 6 year old game.
Wtf. You're all judging the game by it's GRAPHICS?
Dammit, man! And you don't even know how the game runs yet! How do YOU know you need a top-end computer to play it?!
I thought the reason you are playing CS -- a years-old mod of a 6-year-old engine -- was for the unmatched GAMEPLAY, not the frickin' graphics! WHAT THE HELL IS WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
Gah. I won't even bother. You've ruined the whole game for yourself.
Do you mean it doesn't show in the current videos, or it doesn't show as in they haven't shown you enough of what you WANT to see?
HankPym wrote..I'm not saying it doesnt look bad, but it would completely ruin my life considering id be home all day trying to beat this game all by myself, id get so lonely and change, then when i beat the game im like oh look, a human! what a rare specimen!

HL2 single-player is going to dominate my attention for quite a while.
