Some of you guys are a trip. Half-Life Source and Half-Life Radio have reported this news for the past 2 weeks. They just confirmed it with Doug Lombardi and now people like, "wait, they didn't say FALL!" and splitting words.

Doug Lombardi was quoted on Half-Life Radio that the game would be on store shelves by the fall. What part of that do SOME OF YOU not understand? Good grief!

LOL! Valve does not know game quality! Valve's idea of game quality was their initial release of CZ (Yes, we've all tried to forget it...).

All Valve knows is rhetoric! The original HL2 release date was"Summer 03", but then some hackers exploited Valve's stupidity. The hackers told the CS community how much of HL2 was really done, and the HL2 date was pushed to "Winter 03". Then came "Jan 04", "Feb 04", "Spring 04", "Summer 04", and now "Fall 04".

The truly sad thing about this is that Valve has had the money, the fanbase (most popular online multiplayer game), and the time (HL was released in 1998) to create an awesome sequel to the original (that was released over 6 years ago). But instead they have chosen to piss off the gaming community with broken promises and inferior graphics (Doom 3 and Unreal Engine 3 look unbelievably better). And don't even get me started about steam...
Half-Life. Possibly the greatest PC game to date. Half-Life's expansions and spinoffs, which while Valve didn't directly code them, they were still responsible for them. Valve's unending (and unprofitable) support of the mod community. Valve's unprecedented (and also unprofitable) commitment to updating a game, which as you noted is six years old. No other company does that. And yes, I put CS: Condition Zero in the "quality" category. Rather than let Rogue, Gearbox, and Ritual make games that were not up to snuff, Valve kept spending money, eventually taking it upon themselves and Turtle Rock Studios to make the best game they possibly good, when their developers are already unquestionably busy. What they came out with was, in my opinion, just about the best single-player Counter-Strike experience one could develop. Excellent AI, graphics that push the (yes, dated) graphics engine to its limits, as well as the Deleted Scenes, in case you wanted an "Opposing Force" style of CS. Steam is one of the most innovative ideas I've seen in a long time. The integrated server browser, the Friends system that lets you easily look up and communicate with other players, and the instant, no hassle updates are all brilliant. So yes, I guess I would say Valve is committed to quality.

I think you're also the first person I've seen to complain that HL2 has "inferior graphics." The game looks gorgeous, and Valve had the foresight to scale them so they'll run on systems that probably aren't gonna handle Doom 3 at all.

Graphics are not the final determinant of game quality. When I pick of HL2, I'll be judging it by its storyline and gameplay. The storyline of course is being kept a secret, but I like what I've seen so far. The gameplay also looks excellent, particularly the possibilities raised by the new physics engine. By contrast, I'm not really excited about Doom 3 at all. Sure it looks pretty, but the plot is a retread (I'm sure more in-depth, but a retread nonetheless) off the original Doom, and the characters look like they were designed by a hyperactive 7-year old. I mean come on...upside-down skulls with spider legs? I confess that I haven't had enough interest to download videos and check out the gameplay.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're an idiot.

Retard. Valve didn't even make Condition Zero. Who're you to say they're gonna screw up HL2? Just because some other developer screwed up a previous game?

For that matter, if they released it years ago, the game would've had inferior graphics, technology, storyline, ad-nauseum. TIME = QUALITY. What's so hard to understand about that concept? If they're gonna delay it, it only means IT'S GOING TO GET BETTER. Gawd...

HL2 may have gorgeous graphics, but they arent too much to brag about, farcry and doom3 are beating out hl2 by a long shot. the only good thing that comes with these better physics and graphics of hl2, is that the mods get the same treatment. i dont want hl2 for hl2, i want it for cs, yet even tho these graphics arent THAT great or vast of an improvement, u still need a top end computer. valve was my fav company just because of cs, now its time to move on to other things..

they've had plenty of time, whereas the quality doesnt show.

Wtf. You're all judging the game by it's GRAPHICS?

Dammit, man! And you don't even know how the game runs yet! How do YOU know you need a top-end computer to play it?!

I thought the reason you are playing CS -- a years-old mod of a 6-year-old engine -- was for the unmatched GAMEPLAY, not the frickin' graphics! WHAT THE HELL IS WITH YOU PEOPLE?!

Gah. I won't even bother. You've ruined the whole game for yourself.

Do you mean it doesn't show in the current videos, or it doesn't show as in they haven't shown you enough of what you WANT to see?

Well there's your problem, I'm far more interested in single-player HL2 than I am in CS: Source, which while fun looks like it will be a prettier version of CS with the added bonus of new physics.

HL2 single-player is going to dominate my attention for quite a while.

Anyone else just get the feeling some of the complainers here are nothing but bandwagon whores? Yeah, I get that feeling too.

August and most of September is still within the summer months, nevermind some of you are dead set on it ending when you drag yourselves back to school. Guess what? Valve is still planning to have the game done within Summer! *Shock!* *Gasp!*

You complainers need to get over yourselves. Seriously. There's only been one missed release date, all else was never set in stone, nor was there any set date. Guess what? There still isn't a set release date. There's only been confirmed news that Valve has been pushing to have the game done by August, which is the very real possibility that they'll have it done. Other than that, they've made you no promises. Drive that fact into your dense skulls.

In other words. The game should be better than what it is, and no i don't only like graphics but when it comes to this day and age, it should have better ones. And cs's graphics dont bother me cuz its a mod of a 6 year old game.

I'm not saying it doesnt look bad, but it would completely ruin my life considering id be home all day trying to beat this game all by myself, id get so lonely and change, then when i beat the game im like oh look, a human! what a rare specimen!

im sure that most people are pissed off at valve because cz got postponed so many times. If cz was out on one of the first release dates no1 would have been angry at valve coz of this new hl2 release date, just a bit disappointed. Valve should stop giving out those release dates. They should maybe give out just one or two broad ones and if they can finish the game before the release date then the community will just be happy.

I just hope that hl2 will come out b4 doom3 and it better be a freaking good game!
