I think it's flattering that someone calls me a cheater in a server then I got vote kicked successfully. It proves I have skill and makes my day too
Syx wrote..No, the maps were not all done by Ritual, especially not de_vostok... since it was done by me. I've built and textured it in my time as a contractor for Gearbox back in 2001 and was more than surprised to find it in the Xbox version of CS years later.
Vostok and Inferno are too different maps, they're including vostok in cz 1.2 and updating inferno! Vostok is not an updated inferno, I don't know why the screenshot has that caption..Yes Vostok is russian, duh.
The reason the maps and models in CZ are the same as CSX is because both CSX and CSS were made by ritual, the maps too.
_Morphine_ wrote..Thats a really decent idea :) Cliffe....?
CS:CZ should be able to join CS servers and play the original map layouts with the better textures, better player models, and better weapon models. Exactly what I paid for. The advanced bot and map features should be disabled for me as I play on standard CS servers, but turned on again whilst I play on CS:CZ servers.
Equalizer! wrote..Gayass. As if you remember all those updates. Imagin what it would be like WITHOUT THEM, if everything paused at v.1.0. A superstrong mp5, a crazy recoil system, no steam, no vac, steam maybe would've come, but a hella of a lot of bugfixes wouldnt be done. Today it is possible to play a game of cheat-free cs. There are VERY few, maybe some blizzard games, that can brag about that.
Counter-Strike 1.1 - When I first started playing, awsome stuff.
Counter-Strike 1.3 - Still the same with added voice support, only problem there was loads of cheaters.
Counter-Strike 1.4 - This is when CS was starting to die, it was still fun though.
Counter-Strike 1.5 - Same as 1.4 really, still fun but never like it used to be.
Counter-Strike 1.6 - Introduction of Steam, I personally didn't have a problem with it but it was safe to say Counter-Strike's days were coming to an end, the game isn't enjoyable like it once was.
CZ - What a disapointment!
The only thing we can do now is wait for HL2 and CS Source. The introduction of HL2 and it's source engine is going to be a new beginning and I can't wait.

My take on this CS:CZ <-> CS cross-compatibility is as follows:
I paid for CS:CZ. I do not feel it is right that someone who didnt should get all the same features as me for free. Therefore stop whing about the lack of smart hosties, etc. I do however want to be able to play with my CS 1.6 friends/clan without having to exit CS:CZ and lose all my nice graphical features. CS:CZ should be able to join CS servers and play the original map layouts with the better textures, better player models, and better weapon models. Exactly what I paid for. The advanced bot and map features should be disabled for me as I play on standard CS servers, but turned on again whilst I play on CS:CZ servers. This backwards compatibility would be great for CS:CZ and help it to gain more support as more people would feel justified in buying it.
Standard CS users though, would not be able to join CS:CZ servers. they did not pay for the game. Therefore the updaes and the superb AI would not work for them. People who do not pay for CS:CZ should honesty just stop whining to valve as valve really doesnt owe you guys crap.
And to the peoplewho claim that valve is slightly dumbing down parts of CS and lessening the learning curve. Bingo. Valve is a business, not your best friend. To them, anything that helps people to buy the game, get accustomed to it, and play it more often, is the best thing. They are a company, when more people buy the game, they make more money, thus making them a succesful business. Wow, whodathunk that they would want money, hot damn.
But tback to my original point, please valve., bring on the backwards compatibility for CS:CZ and CS.
Poke646 wrote..hmm, contractor, from the sound of things i guess that means it would against your contract to release any of the other maps shown in your portfolio, a shame. i enjoyed poke646 so thanks for that. and i recall checking back awhile ago and seeing that you were either working on getting it working, or had it working under steam. so perhaps its time to give it another run.
No, the maps were not all done by Ritual, especially not de_vostok... since it was done by me. I've built and textured it in my time as a contractor for Gearbox back in 2001 and was more than surprised to find it in the Xbox version of CS years later.
Credit where it's due, Valve mentioned my name on the box, but now they're once again taking my map to push CZ and I doubt that my name will be mentioned this time. I don't want to sound bitter, but it would've been nice to be at least directly contacted about the release... nothing.
Oh well, all I can hope now is that people will at least enjoy my map (which BTW has been stripped off essential parts in its layout), AFAIK it has already been ripped off and released under the name de_vostok by some wannabe community asshat a couple of weeks ago, so some people might already know it.
BTW, if you doubt my words (I'm sure I would, heh), here's screenshots and stuff in my portfolio (under work/games): http://www.spaceman.de/mindmotor
abel wrote..thats why in CS:CZ you have both the standard CS and CZ version of maps. Of course someone playing CS:CZ on a CS server wouldnt load the cz version of a map, thats rediculous as you pointed out. Hence what I was saying about the backwards compatibility. use the same LAYOUT but aply the new textures to the old maps for when a CS:CZ person wishes to join a CS server. Hey, if they wanted that could even throw an option in there to turn that off, so you can play CS maps with CS textures instead of teh new CS:CZ textures.
problem with compatibility with those maps is.. the maps themselves are different. the different textures, places, objects.. its comlpetely different. and the way the game works is it judges point information for players based on what information the client gives the server.. when points on each map differ (cz vs normal cs) then you can't get an accurate picture of where people are.. even NOW you can't get a 100% accurate picture of where bullets go or where people are.. but you can get a smooth estimate :)
its like selecting a point on assault, then going to that same point on estate. for all you know, that point could be in a wall.. or worse: the void. the same with the updated inferno, aztec, whatever maps. they're each very different and most likely incompatible with eachother.
Thortok2000 wrote..Funny how everyone's agreeing with Morphine when I said it first. =/
I think CS:CZ should be able to play in CS servers (backwards-compatible multiplayer). Shouldn't get CZ features if joining CS servers, but stuff like graphics, models, HUD, whatever, all CZ. Or you can join a CZ server to get stuff like smart hosties.
