Actually they have scientist, download milkshape and import a 1.5 and a 1.6 model and tell me they have the same hitboxes.

i wouldn't exactly call the awp's dilemma "abuse". It takes a lot of skill to awp. if you miss your first shot, you have a lot greater chance of dying.
Sounds appropriate for a gun that's a one hit kill. All the delay is doing is keeping players in line, making them use it as a sniper rifle-- it wasn't meant to be carried around and used as a shotgun.

And save the "it takes skill to awp" bullshit. I don't care if it does, I'm tired of hearing it.

I love the solid radar, I can finally see the bomb etc. with my extremely high gamma settings.

I am not a big fan of the large cross hairs or the HUGE headshot death sprite. I understand that the cross hairs are supposed to adjust according to your resolution, but I much prefer the tiny crosshairs as these huge things are just well....weird.

That huge headshot sprite though...that annoys the daylights out of me. I die by headshots all the time and I hate being reminded by a giant skull with a bullet hole in it that I just died by a headshot....again. At least with the previous sprite it was much less noticible

Otherwise, the changes that were made A+++.

                  Bye.
Many have said it. But it is impossible to do. D:

There is a fix available for the skull headshot sprite, head over to http://www.tkwired.com/ to download it. It reverts back to the old knife through head looking icon that we're all so used to.

There is no, and there won't be - a fix for the crosshair, custom crosshairs are considered cheating and VAC will ban you, we just have to hope that VALVe rolls this one back, or at least makes the crosshair equivalent to 1024x768 size in all resolutions, instead of 640x480 size.

I think that VALVe changed the AWP zooming to disencounrage use of the AWP, and to a degree I understand why they did it - I just wish if it had to be this way - that they could've left the Scout as it was. I somehow doubt VALVe will change this, just like they won't bring back bunnyhopping. Perhaps it's time for us all to revisit the good old times with Counter-Strike 1.5 - there are still some servers left, although few.

In regards to the opaque radar (cl_radartype 1), I've no doubt VALVe will clean up the edging, in the mean time you may want to consider a custom radar sprite, VAC will not ban you for using custom *.spr files.

Eh, adjusting the AWP change was weird, but it seems like Valve wants to change CS from more action oriented towards realism instead, so they nerf the AWP.

In a way, it's good, less AWP whoring, and newbies are less likely to whine and more likely to stick with CS because they're not getting owned by someone who can close range AWP like a maniac. But it's also bad, because changing the game to lessen the learning curve even further will apparently anger many of those in the "community" who have played this game since Beta 1 or 5.1 or whatever random number they throw out to try to think they're L337 or whatever.

Realistically, does anyone in a firefight run around with a large sniper rifle in close quarters combat, take a pop shot at someone point blank, switch to their secondary, switch right back to their sniper rifle and shoot the next guy? The reason why they nerfed the AWP was to make sure people use it for what it was intended for, long/mid range combat. It's a sniper rifle, not a shotgun with a scope.

The new headshot icon is horrible, I thought it was weird to see a weapon along with the headshot icon, but the new one looks horrible. I'd rather see the old one in this case.

New crosshairs do seem signifigantly larger, but then again, my shots seem to register way better than they ever did.

New player models are fantastic, they look a little weird at first, but it's great to see some new player models, will we be getting map specific player skins...? And if player models were updates, why not hostages...?

New weapon models seem alright. Better than the defaults at least, but you can find superior stuff in the Gunshop or on CSN Skins.

Overall, the changes were great, I can't wait to see what people put out for their custom missions/tours, and hopefully they'll fix some of glitches, like the weird artifacts that appear in the walls when you're close to them, etc.

Seems the AWP was fixed rather than nerfed. It still does the same damage and the rate of fire is still the same as it has been, if you just let the bolting animation play instead of trying to quickswitch and insta-scope/shoot. Were the AWP users really that dependent on the quickswitch bug that they can't adapt to a one-second delay before being able to scope after switching to the gun?

It's funny hearing all these nerds go fanatical about this awp delay. They had to make some kind of change to it, it's better if they do it now. For the people who are blind to realize it, since the hitbox change came around in 1.6, it's been ridicolously easy to get off awp shots-- you can't tell a good awp player from a bad one anymore.

The delay is a good choice for toning it down, now maybe people will stop abusing it as a shortrange one kill shotgun and treat it as a sniper rifle.

I hope valve doesn't give in and change this.

                              Hmmm. Sniper nerf. Interesting.

I can see what Valve was trying to do here. They wanted to reduce the versatility of the AWP being used in a wide variety of tactical situations which you would never see in real life.

With the ability to quick switch from awp to pistol, then pistol to awp, you really had mobile freedom. You could pick off a target, quick switch to pistol, scan the area and quickly change position, then switch back to awp, and fire again. This made it incredibly useful for close quarters combat; obviously something far from the operation of a real sniper rifle.

Valve apparently wasn't happy with this, and let's face it, people have been whining about the AWP since its conception. They finally decided to do something about it, but I think this particular nerf went a bit too far.

There are a couple of reasons why one would object to this change. The first I'll ignore because it's just silly, this is Counter-Strike after all. And that is, "it has been this way forever, it ain't broke, why fix it?" That is just a funny way to look at it, because changes like this have flown out of left field since day one. We were all use to jumping for years and then CS 1.4 hit us.

The second reason for not wanting this change is the effects it will have on league tactics. Essentially terrorist, or rather the assaulting team, will not be able to make much use of the AWP anymore. Being on the offensive means pushing forward, and since the AWP is now only really useful as a stationary support/long range sniper rifle, you can't use it to its full potential assaulting bombsites. CTs will of course be affected too, on certain maps more than others. Both teams will not be buying it like they did pre-nerf.

Finally there is what I feel to be the most legitimate reason for not wanting this change, and that is Counter-Strike maps are just too damn small to warrant a role for a stationary support sniper. Real life sniper rifles are long range, yes, they aren't useful in CQB, yes, and you can't just run around with them and dominate with them. But in real life you have huge open areas and butt-loads of cover. That's something Counter-Strike just doesn't have. Counter-Strike is a close quarters fast action tactical shooter, and for a sniper rifle to fit into this it really needs to have some effectiveness under these conditions.

I'm kind of rambling on here like it's the doomsday or something. Although I do think the AWP is still functional under most conditions.

Personally, however, I think if they really wanted to nerf the awp they could have taken less drastic steps, and kept its ability to function in CS's limited design scope (no pun lol) by:

Increasing the price. This would make the weapon more valued to its owner. It would make you think twice about throwing your money away on one, and really force you to use it in positions which really require it. And it gives a chance for the opponent to take it away from you, and not just face you again next round as it's unlikely you could afford a second one in a row.

                              Or...

Removing no scope accuracy "exploit." This would slightly alter the awp's ability to function under close quarter twitch combat conditions. It would still have plenty of versatility, but when a rifler corners you down, a lucky no-scope wont save you.

Or I could just be blowing this whole thing out of proportion and nobody will care in two weeks. Who knows :o
