Funny because, that is the final code. Good job at knowing nothing about programming. Doom 3 went gold, that means that the CDs are being replicated as we speak. The game is done, code has been done for probably weeks.
woo-hoo, more preliminary test results without the final code.
way to stick it to the man. or apparently in the man, john.TycooN wrote..
And apparently Doom 3 runs better on nVidia because they know how to use OpenGL? That's utterly ridiculious. Spec-wise, the 6800 is better than the X800 series. ATI doesn't support a lot of things that will be in DirectX 9.0c. Do you want to be buying a new video card the end of this year, middle of next year?

The only thing ATI does good is tone down their AA and AS in games to make it run faster on benchmarks (Tom's Hardware) and run their cards at massive clock rates to get better performance. They cut the pipes on the cards instead of just lowering the clock rate - big mistake.
Am I an "nVidia fan boy?" No, I suggest buying a Radeon 9800 Pro until the next generation of cards come out. They aren't worth the money. The Radeon performs perfectly in both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, and best of all it's very much affordable at $180 (online retailers).SALAMIjedi wrote..
You need to remember that Video Cards are hardware in themselves, sometimes more complex than a lot all of the hardware in the computer you own. Different vendors of video cards have different extensions for different APIs, in this case, Nvidia and ATI both have different extensions for OpenGL. Most game development firms need to specifically write code paths to get the best peformance out of each video card (id Software is a good example, Carmack explains well in his development journal posts).
im back and no offense taken. a lot of people in my family work with Nvidia (like indirectly and do business deals) and they do agree that programs are rigged in order to make one card run slower and one card much faster. Afraid i For the patching issue, take a look at FarCry's support page. there is only one issue in regards to a Radeon and its only to the 9600, nothing on the high end of ATi's list. You may also notice in patch 1.1 that there was completely new added support for the new 6800 chip, almost half a year before it's release date was announced, there hasnt been any added support for Radeon X800's lately and there never will be. Can't post the link cause its too long. but just go to www.farcrythegame.com and follow the links.
also ive notice that my Radeon 9800 cant run UT2004 very well (1.5ghz, 512 RAM(DDR)), compared to my brothers Ti4600 (1.4ghz, 1GB). I know its not the RAM issue because i took out one of his modules and his still ran better, but it just loaded maps slower. i actually have a makeshift screenshot somewhere on my bro's comp showing the FPS versus my FPS. i emailed it to both Nvidia and ATi, no response.
but this kind of "extortion" is real, and it actually shows that competition can really hurt the consumer. ATi has just jumped onto the band wagon recently with HL2 and is planning some more. but it Nvidia has tons of property under its belt.Comment

Speaking of ATI, is there ever going to be an official fix for the FPS issues in CS 1.6 besides "downgrade your drivers" (which doesn't even work half the time). My geforce 4 can push ~ 400fps, but my radeon 9800 pro drops into the 60s, yet it runs top-tier games flawlessly.
I guess it won't matter when I switch over to Source :-)Comment

The ATI framerate issues are really bizarre to me. I'm running a Radeon 8500 le and have never experienced the problem. Since I upgraded my CPU which was bottlenecking everything else, I've experienced a steady 98-99 FPS, with an occasional drop into the 70s or so.

but you shouldn't play with it as it actually gives worse performance, fps isn't everything. It's just nice to see what kind of frames you can get without a cap.
Also, make sure vsync is off of course (display properties).Comment

that's a very good point.
Hahaha I feel sorry for the people with the coupons that bought CZ after Valve announced the beta... lets see how long you will play CZ now. :)
and we wonder why valve didnt announce this earlier. How many people who already had vouchers went to buy CZ just for the CS:S BETA.
with all this bullshit, this game better come out and it better be good.Comment
