im back and no offense taken. a lot of people in my family work with Nvidia (like indirectly and do business deals) and they do agree that programs are rigged in order to make one card run slower and one card much faster. Afraid i For the patching issue, take a look at FarCry's support page. there is only one issue in regards to a Radeon and its only to the 9600, nothing on the high end of ATi's list. You may also notice in patch 1.1 that there was completely new added support for the new 6800 chip, almost half a year before it's release date was announced, there hasnt been any added support for Radeon X800's lately and there never will be. Can't post the link cause its too long. but just go to www.farcrythegame.com and follow the links.



also ive notice that my Radeon 9800 cant run UT2004 very well (1.5ghz, 512 RAM(DDR)), compared to my brothers Ti4600 (1.4ghz, 1GB). I know its not the RAM issue because i took out one of his modules and his still ran better, but it just loaded maps slower. i actually have a makeshift screenshot somewhere on my bro's comp showing the FPS versus my FPS. i emailed it to both Nvidia and ATi, no response.



but this kind of "extortion" is real, and it actually shows that competition can really hurt the consumer. ATi has just jumped onto the band wagon recently with HL2 and is planning some more. but it Nvidia has tons of property under its belt.

I think I read somewhere long ago that it would get you the multiplayer version of HL2. I could be wrong though, I don't have an exact source for you.

Just for you guys, my ATI radeon 9800 xt box says right on the back, "Full version includes single and multiplayer modes." On the card it says, "With your purchase you are eligible to receive a free* copy of Valve's full version game - Half Life 2." The asterisk pertains to shipping. In other words you pay for shipping. I'm really saddened to read that. I don't mind some deals being made, maybe have some special features available on one brand of card over another. Even if no deals were made, one would expect performance differences between different brands. I do believe, though, that companies should give all major brands of hardware proper support.

by the time HL2 comes out your hardware will be >=2 generations out of date

HL2 runs better on ATi because ATi actually knows how to make a video card that fully supports DirectX 9

i think it's ok for ATI and nVidia to go to great lengths to optimize their chips/drivers for a specific game.. but when the developers code something specific for one card over the other.. bad things happen.



the only way to win in this situation is to buy both cards. or get a fast enough CPU/RAM etc to offset the bias in speed.

i dont think you know what you're talking about. nVidia's 6800 chip set supports DirectX 9.0c whereas ATI's only supports up to DirectX9.0b



which means that ATI cant support Shader Model 3.0 (seen in the 1.1 farcry patch)



This wont matter for HL2 though because it wont take advantage of Shader Model 3.0.. (probably because they must wait for ATI to catch up)



at the end of the day nVidia supports DirectX fully, not ATI.

what Tycoon is saying that Nvidia cards may support directx9.0c, but they are not coded well enough to actually run as welll as a Radeon in DirectX 9.0b.



However, that can be fixed through updates, but the implementation of Directx 9.0c for the X800 can not, thus giving Nvidia an advantage.

Well also you need to rememeber that HL2 was optimized for ATI's video cards, because that is their parthership, do you understand that. Doesn't mean Nvidia doesn't know how to make DX9 cards. I want my DX10... Now that will rule. DXX lol

perfect solution if ur rich: buy two computers, one with nvidia and one with ati

or if ur not rich buy two gpu's and switch them depending on what game u want to play =P pain in the ass though
