I think VAC should be mandatory on all servers. Playing on a non-secure server just so you're allowed to cheat is still a violation of the EULA, is it not?
Isn't there also a mailing list that says when they update VAC? That should go away. VAC should be updated silently, but of course you can do like they did just now and say "We've updated 8 times in the last week." or something like that.
The 'silent ban' is a bad idea, because however long you 'wait' allows people to use those cheats on the servers. You may catch more people, but that's just because you're catching the idiots. I think the silent ban would be very helpful, but you'd really have to watch how many people are using the hacks. Say, once it reaches 500 people who've earned the silent ban, then you initiate it. Because VAC is supposed to ban, not tag.Comment

I'm still amazed at how easily cheaters can get a new key. Hopefully in the future (HL2 etc) account security will be more secure and exclusive to you, like games like EQ/daoc/mmorpgs etc. You can't just get a new EQ key on kazaa in 10 seconds and start playing again if you're banned.Comment

Valve are going to implement a kind of P2P for HL2, I believe: pay something in the region of $9.95 a month as opposed to a one off payment of $40. The monthly payment will supposedly include new content (in the same manner as opposing force etc), and word from valve is that the per-month payment will be better value in the long run.
Theyre probably more secure 'cus they're tied to your credit card.
This whole thing might worry people that it'll go down the ol' "Pay to play" route. Hell, enough people cried out that Steam would involve it.Comment

This isn't entirely accurate.

dont talk unless you have a source. THe idea of a pay per month has been suggested, but its no where as close to being as final as you make it out to be...nore are anything firm yet.
