I can't imagine going down to 25fps... I would lose all ability to keep locked on to my enemies heads as they move. Assuming it's fill-rate limited, dropping from 1600x1200 down just one notch to 1280x960 would give you just over a 1.5x performance boost, bringing that 25fps up to nearly 40fps, which is much more playable. Drop it down to 1024x768, and you'd be in the 60fps neighborhood, which is where it starts to feel somewhat smooth, even if not perfectly so.

i havnt had any probs with those drivers whatsoever.
CS and Tribes 2 had severe lag issues on my PC with a GF2 using those drivers at any point in time where certain transparent sprites were visible. This ranged from shrubs in Tribes 2 to the map overlay and smoke effects in CS. (The map overlay would seriously drop me to under 1fps.)

I'm not implying that those drivers gave everyone issues, but they certainly consistantly did horribly in my machine, where as the 5x.xx series does just fine, as do older drivers (like the 23.11's and such). Odds are that if they had issues on my machine, there were plenty of other people out there with problems as well, and who knows, a few people might still be stuck in that configuration as we speak.

Also... aren't the nVidia drivers compatible with all of their products, including the Geforce 2 Go chipsets?
