Steam Downtime Complete - Update Released

I figured you guys should already know this since it's been in the news but I'll post it anyways. Valve hired the guy who wrote BitTorrent. I would imagine a BT-style approach is coming eventually.

I wonder how people will feel about their computers being used as a server, should it be optional to act as a server for others or required?

ya im the same way it updated alright, updated so i can't play. Says my net is down and thats WRONG! and WTF is up with "Offline Play" ROFL I can't even use it when I'm "OFFLINE" WTF is that. Jee sure hopoe they fix this fast cuz damn I want to play. Well hope it ends up working later today.

Hey, at least you can update...

The content servers hate me, I've never gotten past 1%. Hah, some op on quakenet said Steam is working fine now. As far as I can tell, nothing has improved since the release which was 5 hours ago.

I got the update, did the HL2 survey, then updated CS. Right before CS would open, I got this hilarious error message:



SteamMountAppFilesystem(10,0,0x573fd0c) failed with error 1.



Oh well.

*)bugfixes for really really really overdue bugs! (probably.. but not the shield etc)



buy it now when we introduce the first new feature: pay to not play!

(buy a game, wait for it to download, steam overloads, we steal your money, you get no game!)

Wrong! I did my update today at 12:20 PST light load on the steam servers. The problem is that the steam download either corrupted my Steam executable, or it downloaded a bad Steam executable from Valve.

As I now have a steam client that will not run at all due to memory violation errors (has nothing to do with pathic bandwidth), the ONLY solution will be to re-install steam from the distro.



You can rent servers and bandwidth, UUNET would love someone to pay them more money. Why do the idiot coders at Valve keep implementing features that require more bandwidth without considering that they dont have the capability?

And while I am bashing the programming staff at Valve, how about testing a release before "infecting" several million loyal customers. If I released software as buggy as this to one customer, I would be out of a job!

well, after about 2 straight hours of battling with steam i managed to actually get it updated. experience nearly all the problems mentioned (apart from the crashing, sux 2 be you



anyway, now wtf?!?! steam will now download CS??? 350mb??? FU!!!



though i suspect it will simply update it, its stupid for steam to tell me CS is not installed, that cache size is zero and that i must now ''install cs'' some idiots work for steam i think.



anyway, so with a groan i press OK, then i get a gay ass screen that tells me i need to use the email verification system.... oooooook, so i tell 'steamingpileofturd' to send me an email... 3 minutes of hanging later it tells me that something or other is fubard and to try again later... again i say FU!!!!



during ALL of this is see on the server list plenty of people playing CS.



typical quote from valve 'hey dont get pissed at us, we dont have enough bandwidth' followed by generic string of similar excuses



to that i say, well sherlock, back in the day when patches for CS were released through the community things like this didnt happen, so since you forced your BS on us AT LEAST give us service like we used to have and stop cutting corners.



to be honest im kinda hoping HL2 doesnt ever get released and valve go bankrupt and then maybe CS will be given back to us



excuse the rant, over the last 2 or god knows how many hours i have built up a lot of frustration towards steam, and to think i had allmost forgiven them ^_^

try deleting your clientregistry.blob (steam will re-download it on restart) and make sure there is no steam.dll in your cstrike folder (im pretty sure thats where it is [check steampowered.com's forums if none of these work])
