I got the source code at a LAN party, some guy gave me the half life 2 saying that it was the actual game, I was dissappointed to learn it was just the source, but still its making me want to learn C++ :-)

I can see it being rather interesting. to be honest, the only reason I haven't got it is because I know how fucking annoying it is to find a complete rip off of your script under a different guise. If someone from Valve had done it officially, then I'd have been the first in line for it!Comment

This about what you just said. You said SOF2 was released in BETA. There is a huge difference my friend of having a beta being released as to opposed to having the source code leaked. Don't be suprised if HL2 is delayed another year.
Rgr that hotbot~
Also, this isn't like its completely rare, on a similar note, most games get leaked before they're released so it was only a matter of time, as far as anything delaying hl2, very doubtful~
For example, SOFII was leaked while in Beta (I know this because I worked closely within several gaming websites and corresponded with the company as chief editor) and it was absolutely not such a big crisis. The difference is in this situation someone, more than likely who had access already, was the probable cause of leak. As it stands, usually these jobs aren't for malicious intent, but for other reasons, some we may never know~
Don't freak, it's not even worth wasting a poll on imo, btw, how come there's no option to vote 'Nothing to worry about will happen' on the poll? There should always be an option as in Yes or No or Maybe for a poll, guess I won't vote this week (who cares, right?)
I do think, for people who care or have something to prove, they may work on some pre-release cheats, but there won't be any more of a problem than there always is with online gaming. Whether its a week before or a week after, if someone wants it bad enough you can't stop teh h4x!Comment

If you must know, REAL hackers only do it for the thrill and the challenge of getting in. The information they find is rarely ever looked at. This hacker must have been a real asshole.
computer espionage was probably it. No1 sane would hack like that without trying to get something out of it or getting paid to do so.Comment

I tried to read all the posts here but got board with some of you bitching at each other about spelling, and you're a moron, no you're a moron, Don't us outlook, don't use this.. use Linux blah, blah, blah .. ffs
Grow up this isn't about you, it's about those 30 odd poor bastards who have spent the last 5 years working on something just to have a it stolen by some spotty little prick who couldn't get a shag in a whorehouse.
Valve probably done everything they can to stop this happening, do you really think they wanted 5 years of work to be published over the net?
Personally I hope they catch the retard who done this and lock them up for the maximum time allowed for this crime, what he/she has done has pissed allot of people off and probably cost some people to lose their jobs, now that isn't funny.
If you can help Valve, then do so.Comment

Well what can I say
I really am sorry that this happened but shit happens and you got to deal with it. In my view, Value, didn't deserve this at all. They are the second greatest company (next to Blizzard) and they needed some cash. Although this source code could temporarily disrupt there revenues, companies can not simply copy their code and change a few things. They would be sued, so to all you who have thought of this scenario, your incorrect. However, five years, relieved to everyone is quite a drastic consequence because they illy equipped there networks and keeping such a delicate file open on that type of network. I will leave you all with a quote I read on other forums, "Don't leave your multi-million dollar ideas on an "open" network, your really asking for it. Guard your treasures as if they were your own (kids)....."Comment

I really dont get what good can people do with someone else source code other than piss off the developer cause they just lost X years of work. Then there are the millions of fans who are waiting for HL2, now this will only cause a fat delay in releasing this game. Sure there are many people who got warez, but this is the worst thing to do.
It is true, nothing is hack proof. All it takes is time and eventually something will be cracked. I just hope they find who ever did this so they can lock his sorry ass up and throw away the key.
Idiots these days.. dont even think before they do somethingComment

Actually ziggie they didn't really lose their work, they could still use it, but whether or not they want to is up to them. Persoanlly I don't think they were finished with the game anyway so it's likely the person didn't get the final source code.
When you have something as hot a topic as HL2, it doesn't need any motivation except bragging rights that you have the source code from the developer.
It's not like they're going to give it a paintjob and hope to drive it around themselves. The paper work is just a little more complicated~
I'm done with this post.
