i bet it was someone who was pissed 'cause they delayed hl2.
Hacking it would only cause valve more problems, which in the long run would delay HL2 even more.

Me thinks that is a Delay escuse for HL2 ... Inside Job..possibly..but in many company's there are procedures to make in case of suspicious act's..and Valve..let things happend ? no way ... i just cant figured out ..is it a big pakage ?...maybe is another merchandise strategy

Valve originally had plans to release the source code for Half-Life a few years after the release but those plans were scrapped when they realized what a problem the hackers were becoming and just how much bigger the hacking problem would be if the source code was released. I shudder to think just how much worse the hacking problem is going to be for Half-Life 2 now. I hope these people are arrested by the police(in what ever country they live in)and sentenced for breaking and entering and theft, because that's exactly what they did.

VALVe's fault or not, my money is on the hacker being one of those newbass Steam-haters.

Or rizzuh. Yeah. Gotta be him.

Well, VALVe was pretty stupid to have the Source anywhere near the internet. They should have backed up onto disks and moved them manually, as well as used only an Intranet. Stupid of them. I am angry at the hackers, too.

don't u people realize that Counter-Strike 1.6 full source code is also in there?

meaning? all the things u weren't sure about, such as recoil, grenade damage, bullets going through walls, ex_interp, hitboxes code and everything else - it's all there!

i bet you guys are kicking yourself right now, looking at the 'complicated' C++ code and trying to figure out what 'bool' means. haw-haw! sssuckers.

ps. this is also very unfortunate, because release of this source code simplified the job of cheat-writers by a very very big amount. everything will be a piece of cake now, and VAC might not help for a while... i'm really scared of this, and am hoping for the best. god speed, HL2. :)

From all this I must conclude the same person that leaked the cia agent's name is the same person that leaked the source code.

CONSPIRACY THEORY ANYONE HUH HUH HUH

maybe valva was gonna delay HL2 even more and they needed a damn good reason for doing so.

So this source code mumbo jumbo might just be a front.

Well i guess no one will get thier HL2 till like 2005

If they caught the culprit, they could cut off his/her hands on live national television, and that may help prevent future leaks.

                                Heres how I see it.

HL2 was supposed to be released on september 30th.

Hacker hears about the delay and sets up his attack so by the 30th he can get access to the code.

On september 30th, he logs in, downloads the code, and uploads it to (warez site of some sort).

That way, in a form of civil disobedience, he RELEASED HL2 on september 30th, without valve's concent.

                                ----

I read on the steampowered.com forum that some files reference the date september 30th.
                                m_nBuildNumber -= 37527; // Sep 30 2003
