I suppose it's better that HL2 will be less buggy, but is that really the reason for the delay? I reckon the delay was caused by one or more of the following:

    1. Steam sucks, and can't handle HL2 downloads yet

    2. CZ sucks, and wouldn't sell with HL2 on the market

    3. The Nvidia benchmarks on HL2 are abysmal and need work done to them.

    4. HL2 will sell more before xmas.

    5. They want everyone to have more time to upgrade their graphics cards

    6. They are all nasty people, and I'm gonna tell my mammy!

I take it we won't be seeing CS2 before xmas 2004 now...

Goddam it. My drinking problem has relapsed because of this. I tried to make love to my girfriend last night but all i could see in the darkness was Gabes face staring up at me, laughing insanely at my plight. Now she doesn't want to see me as I obsess endlesly over my vitriolic hatred of valve. I blew all my money on upgrading my rig and now the banks are threatening to reposess my house as I quit my job so I could play HL2 uninterupted on sept 30th. I even changed my name by depoll to Gordon Freeman and grew a ridiculous goatee so I would be even further emersed into the story.

I have now metamorphed into an angel of darkness. I am staring down on my hapless victims from the clock tower through a telescopic sight, seeking blind retribution against innocents, playing God with peoples lives as Valve played god with mine. I see Hari Krishnas coming!!! Boy they're gonna get it.

              MWAA HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Valve, you never think of the consequences of your actions. The blood of these mall shoppers is now on your hands...

Urgh. Hang on. It's called half life, not real life! Phew. Almost made an ass of myself.
              lol, funniest thing ever...

Then as soon as it is available those that were whining about the delay for HL2 will rush out and gobble them up from the shelves and proclaim how great the game and Valve are.

                Hypocrisy is fun eh.
                How is that hypocrisy?

OMG You mean VALVe is delaying a game?!?

It's all Steam's fault - I'd bet money that the game is ready, but the Steam system can't handle purchases yet.

Ah well - I figured they'd shoot for a holiday release anyway - didn't make sense to sell before Thanksgiving.

To be honest I don't care because Steam is working fine for me now, which should keep me occupied for a while.

Great, I was like "Sick, get my new system by Friday, HL like mid next week, this is awesome" Now by the time HL2 DOES come out my Radeon 9800pro will be horribly outdated and my whole summer of researching and combining the perfect computer will be a waste. Yea!.....

Meh I guess it is for the better, I just REALLY WANT TO PLAY IT NOW ugh.

That's about what I think happened. When it is released I know it'll be good and that's all I care about, the quality of the final product that is all that matters to me.
You've got a great point dude. That actually makes a lot of sense. HL2 is going to own CS CZ, so if HL2 is realeased 1st, CZ is going to fail. And you're right, Steam won't be able to handle a massive release thing like that, it can barely handle the ... how many is it now?.. users on it already :)

There has never been a software which was bug-free and released as initially anticipated. Further, you'll know whether you're gonna exceed the deadline or not when it's too late (must be related to Murphy's Law somehow), so I'd say 7 days in advance is good and, especially when dealing with a project with the size and complexity of a game like HL², a good sign that VALVe has a working project management.

Well hopefully they will put more effort into the HL2 release...look at steam after a whole year of beta testing...

i was rather hoping they'd meet his deadline but hell, more time for nvidia to polish up their direct x 9 performance, more time for ati/nvidia to release new cards and current direct x 9 prices to drop and more time for s3 to get their new line of budget dx 9 cards released. :) just means by the time it actually comes out i might be able ot run it now :{P
