Then as soon as it is available those that were whining about the delay for HL2 will rush out and gobble them up from the shelves and proclaim how great the game and Valve are.
Hypocrisy is fun eh.
HL2 Officially Delayed

Although I understand that delays are part and parcel of everything, I think that with all that's going on that VALVe needs to release something, anything, that's new in order to salve over the bad vibes that happened over the release of Steam. I, personally, I have a resevered copy of CZ that I was supposed to get in August and that never happened, and somehow I knew that HL2 was going the same way. If I remeber right, I think it was PC Gamer that wrote an article about this saying that HL2 sucked with Nvidia cards compared to ATI Radeon cards, so maybe they're trying to fix that.
Anyways, my point is that when you make a target date for release, start releasing a lot of promo stuff about it near the date, and then delay it time and time again, it gets old and people no longer anticipate the release of the game and instead go elseware.Comment

Hooray! Now I can get even more excited in anticipation!
Alas, it also means any level design I start doing will collide beautifully with exams and the mad rush in the second semester to finish an important part of my degree. Wonderful.
Well done to Valve for being open about this BEFORE the 30th.
It's freezing here. For the past few months it's been wonderfully warm and comfortable, but I'm shivering right now. That means it's time for me to play some HLDM and remember the good ole days before CS and TFC. I recommend everyone else do the same (boot_camp is the DM map you should play, of course) - it'll make the HL2 delay seem so much shorter.Comment

I find I need several ounces of crack before I can find any pleasure in deathmatching at HLDM speeds anymore. CS has dulled my senses or something, 'cause I just need slower targets, and I'm always worrying about hitting the head.
Anyway, it's somewhat disappointing, simply because of the "what if they really do make release date...?" factor, but it's not all that unexpected. Oh well, I'm busy making my way through Opposing Force at the moment, Steam seems to have given it to me for free, so why not? :)
Anybody know whether the benchmark is delayed as well, or will we at least get to start benching our systems and subsequently cry at the 14fps results at the lowest settings?Comment

If you didn't see this coming...
I'd look both ways before crossing the street, and then double check, if I were you, because you haven't been paying attention to anything.
Like every major PC game release. I've always respected id for the 'when it is done, it will be released' theory on release dates.
Maybe if we're lucky, they can get CS 2 to coincide with the release of HL2, on the new engine, and for that - That, I'd buy it.
I could personally give a damn about a graphically impressive single player game, one comes out every year; you drop $50 on it, and I don't have the notion to play any single player adventure more than once. Multiplayer is where the fun and value come in, and the only multiplayer I play is CS. :PComment

I think it could have just as much to do with Steam and Counter Strike: Condition Zero as it does with Half-Life 2, and here is a dramatization of what I think happened at Valve sometime in the last week....
"Alright lets just delay it already, HL2 is still too unrefined to release to the public, and to top it off Steam is in shambles and could never handle the HL2 release there are just too many bugs in it, and our major release test through Steam of CZ isn't gonna be finished before Sept. 30th and I don't want HL2 to be the thing that stress tests the servers and besides if we release HL2 before CZ then CZ won't even BE a major release at all. So then lets just delay Half-Life 2 for two months until the end of November or early December everything will run smoother and simpler if we do that we'll be happier, Vivindi will be happier, and our fans will be happier. End of story,"
That's about what I think happened. When it is released I know it'll be good and that's all I care about, the quality of the final product that is all that matters to me.Comment
