you need to go to "settings" in STEAM, then logout. When you login again it will be fine.

i would comment on cs 1.6 BUT seeings a steam is so shite every time i try to install it i get error after error (actually i installed it once, ran it and got "Updating steam client" (or similar) for like 4 hours with no progress) due to this small error in steam i have resorted back to 1.5 (wow its so easy to install (oh yeah i had to re-install it after steam fucked my hl + cs installation) just insert hl cd, next, next, next... done wow so easy. ohh lets update half life. Download the patch from file planet double click it, next next next done wow that was e-z. you get the point, steam is shite, why break somthing that works fine the way it is... whats the problem with valve throwing out updates the was they have done in the past? answer: Becasue the are control freaks and want power over all of their software (LAME!)

Wish all the moaners about the riot shield would stfu. It adds something to CS no matter what you may think about it. I don't seem to have a problem being killed when having a shield and don't have a problem killing ct's with the shield. Anyone who cannot kill Shield CT's should pack up and play Unreal Tournament or Quake.

Steam kicks arse, updates all files and when you need them and runs fine on my pc. Obviously it is always a good idea to judge an online game on the first few days of the release. Sheesh I think CS should have an award for having the biggest base of whingers.



Get broadband, buy a decent pc, get some skills for the game and STFU!

All I can say is that it would be nice to see a few comments that were posted about every version that has been released. Everytime Valve has released a new version the comments have been the same. I swear to god that CS has been called gay more times than Michael Jackson or even John Jensen. The software business is crazy... You can NEVER plan ahead for the 'idiot user equation'. It's like a 150 mile wide hurricane. It's just too bad that the majority of Valves target audience are too narrow minded to see that they are participating in innovation. (Man... I wish I could comment more on this) What Valve is doing with Steam has never been done before. Kudos to Valve for having the balls to lead their field (and most other software developers) into a new chapter of software distribution. They deserve a plaque or something. =) It's just too bad that they didn't use more of a P2P approach (like bittorrent) so that their servers didn't get brutilized by the hurricane.

Just thought I would clarify this statement. I believe that Steam does use a P2P approach in a manner of speaking by utilizing multiple content servers to try and balance the load (much like server clustering) but the bulk of the load could have been provided by the clients who were downloading. Bittorrent even checks every piece that it downloads against the original to ensure that their is no corruption and will redownload that piece if corruption exists. It also works with complete directory structures. This would have solved alot of the problems that people have experienced. I hope that someone from Valve reads this and uses it. Find out more about bittorrent. Much like steam is an innovation in mainstream software distribution it's an innovation in P2P. I am just surprised that most companies haven't jumped on this bandwagon. P2P is more than just a tool for pirates.

Bittorrent is good, but it brutalises anyone with an asynchronous connection (ie upload rate is slower than download rate) as you can't control the upload speed, and if your upload speed hits its peak it destroys your download speed (last time I tried using it my download rate dropped from over 1K a sec down to 1byte a second). If the client were to allow setting a maximum upload speed this obviously wouldn't be a problem but then everyone might set it as low as possible and then its a waste of time...

I haven't even played 1.6, because of the ports needed to play. Work policy is to leave those closed, therfore, even If I had the patch, I couldn't even play, much less, play on LAN, and I'm not about to play on dial-up.

This is to all you people who don't know how to start up a LAN server. MORONS. RTFS. I have started up my own LAN server on 1.6 before it even officially came out. There is no LAN tab to click on. Just play around with it, you'll figure it out. It's different and awkward BUT THERE IS STILL LAN.

Sorry - I've never seen one of those shields in real life - the SWAT team has never had to storm my house...



Seriously though - the shield can be gotten by BUT, yesterday I was playing italy. The ENTIRE ct team bought shields and we got raped for several rounds - we asked them to lose the shields and then they got raped several rounds. There is a testimony to how unbalanced the shield is - 1 or 2 shields per ct team is ok, but 10? It should have an armor value that depletes, and be limited as far as how many can be purchased by the CT team (i.e. TFC snipers - you can only have so many)



Please don't try and say that "T's have this gun, and it's uberpowerful, so it's even." That's crap, mmmkay, so just save it. When I've used the shield (yes I've whored it), just like anyone else I can pwn up 3 or 4 guys with Galils or AK's. The guns don't make it even when a n00b can pwn up 4 guys with ar's. I don't think it's fair to compare the shield to the AWM just because YOU CAN SHOOT BACK AND HIT THE GUY WITH THE AWM.



I think the main reason we have seen the shield change is the fact that it exists in CZ - just like the bots. I think with time, changes can be made to make the shield fair and balanced, and they won't have to nerf it - just limit it's use or give it a damage value.



Steam is fine - buggy and a little slow, but if you are persisitent it works. It took me 4 days to get in, download all the games, but now it works. Loads a little slow, sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes 3 minutes. But altogether fine.
