Steam content servers are dropping like flies so I would just calm down now and not expect much good to come today unless they get those server back up. And then some.

well...for me i think i had to open up some ports on my firewall ... i havea linksys router....after i did that it worked for once but it was 4 in the morning and i went to sleep ... now i wake up and i get the same errors as before .... can steam go down for some people and not for others?

I didn't have to - maybe that is the problem

#1353 neither did i but it still works ... think it has to do with what options you selected when you began steam install

releasing 1.6 just like every other CS would have been fine. yeah you still had to wait 3-4 hours to DL, but at least it worked after you downloaded it. I love the idea of steam and I loved when it worked for 1.6beta.. the friends list and being able to open all the games from it was sweet... but it just doesn't work

i think in about 2 weeks steam will be fine ..... its just right now for some reason i think that they are shutting down areas or certain steam id's until otheres get uploaded and then switching it around ever few hours to keep everyone happy... as soon as it settles down i dont doubt they will work it out but there should have been less problems with all this

You had CS/HL already installed so it got it from your registry.

This is BS, I click on steam and it loads after a couple mins, I click on a server to play * Shows people in servers , aswell as around 500 servers that I saw* and BOOM it freezes then i have to close the program down ( end task ) This is just frikin great, my day off to play games and spend time at home and nothing to do. Get you r asses to work!!! lol

Whenever I choose CS out of My Games, it says it needs to download a 350 mb file for CS, I click install, and nothing happens, any ideas?

I thought application files were called executables for a reason...itsn't something supposed to happen?
