I get the same problem Venom, just sticks at the "preparing to launch" spiel. I'm hoping I don't have to uninstall and reinstall for the millionth time.

Well, my steam works but i have to kinda poke at it a little bit. I have to double-click at least 2-7 times before it lets me play.

ok.. its finished updating but its like stuck on the last bar the thing is full but the play game thing is still not clickable

lol i was just getting 2.2 mb/s i was lika WHOA but its still downloading halflife i guess...

edit: ok steam is officially gay... i go to launch cs and cs isnt responding.. so i close.. then i go to launch again and steam isnt responding grrrr FUCK THIS FUCK STEAM VALVE U FUCKING SUCK RELEASE 1.6 LIKE A NORMAL FUCKING PATCH

OK heres my problem. Yesterday I installed steam (with the help of the big 379 mb cache file) and it worked fine (well the framerate was horrible but that was cause i hadnt tweaked it yet) now however, everytime i try to start CS (either thru the servers window or the play game window or using the hl.exe) it just shows the CS1.6 background picture and craches, nothing happens, i cant even see or move my mouse. Anyone know what this problem might be caused by then help me plz

Ya know... after downloading the steam+counterstrike package it only had to update steams program database stuff... after that.. Counter strike 1.6 just came on.. and I joined a game.. and there you go.. personaly.. I love this steam interface.. it speeds everything up.. from getting server info.. real time server searches.. to joining a game.. it even has chat and a buddy list.. which I assume as already been used to cheating.. i.e. "He's camping over <insert location>" dead people can help the living members of their team.. which is cheap.. I mostly use it to yell at people and to play tricks.. by organzing outside of the visible chat (steam IM) so there.. I love it.. and it runs just as good as 1.5 did.. no slow down or loss of fps..
