Steam is a great program, it maybe slow now but when you download the full 375mb installer you will be able to play cs 1.6 straight away wahoo.



I have spent longer trying to get my buy scripts working than getting steam to work lol.



So stop moaning children ( only the children) download the full installer and enjoy steam and cs 1.6 at its best :)



p.s Tbh I wouldnt buy HL2 over steam, take too dam long to dl lol.

I think I botched the HL installation somehow. That kinda sucks, I gotta go back and find out what happened.



When I tried to convert, every procedure failed and I ended up cancelling it, but it said that the conversion worked! Now, when I try to install it, it says it's installed, but it won't launch. argh.

I understand that and I'm glad that they're trying to improve it. My only problem is that they're going to make it so that every CS player has to use it, and my point about that is that if they're going to go to that kind of a system, it seems like they could have done a better job at it. If I was new to CS and I had to go through this, I would have taken my CD back to the store and gotten a refund.



If these threads are any indication, I have faith that VALVe will do something about all this, but until they do, I really have to say that this doesn't bode well for what should be a revolutionary way of online gaming.

THIS IS NOT REFLECTIVE OF STEAM. Steam is not designed to send 40000 people 1 or more gigs of content in a single day, which is what it is being forced to do now. It is designed to stream content and small updates to users, check program consistency and legitimacy of their online game copies. This is no worse then any other update, every single major CS HL update is a pain in the ass for the same reason. Every update people bitch about it being a pain to DL the updates. The only difference is now instead of blaming valve for not having 100 file mirrors your blaming steam for not having a server farm that cost them 8 million dollars for a one time product update and rollout.

it never prompted me for my cd key, but im playing cs and hl through it, wtf?

Ok. WTF.



So i dled the update from steam i beleive, i waited 167 min for the cs 350 meg update. and it finished dling. so now, it says when i try to enter a game i dont have Steam authentication. so i exited, and NOW what it says under my monitor is CS is still updating! do i did properties on it, and it said ready to play, then changed to transering at 120kb/s so wtf?
