This blows!!!!Is valve doing a titantic reanactment or what? Delay = gamers seeking allegiance elswhere thus losing customer base. Don't forget about the beast of ID(Doom 3). By the time HL2 releases we will all be entagled in dooms multiplayer and all the cool mods there after. Won't be long we will say HL2 what's that, rings a bell but can't put a finger on it!!!!!!

Now I know what to say when all my friends (they've already started) say 'Valve is going to go bankrupt with this bs delaying.' Thank you, Lord Riz.
There's only a very marginal peak in summer related sales. Holidays is really the best time to sell a game. However, a title like Half-Life 2 will be a hit no matter what so the release date is kind of unimportant.Comment

This time last year I didn't know Half-Life 2 existed. Usually I have to wait at least 2 or 3 years after a high-profile game's announcement before it's actually released (DOOM 3). So I figure that if I have to wait until April then thats cool, I've only waited about a year. The game will be good anyway you look at it. Just play CS and stop complaining.
Also you didnt see doom 3 makers starting all over after the alpha of the game got leaked.
Think a little bit here my man. That was a working application, not the actual code of the game. Already compiled with a working GUI, ect. What was stolen from Valve was raw code. It's like the difference between what you see when you pull up a webpage and the html "source" code under it.
Have a nice day.Comment

I hate to say it but I knew that this was coming.
I don't hate VALVe bashers as much as #53 does, but I do find the constant slamming to be getting ridiculus. I've already got a customized system build and running other games like WC3 to keep me entertained until it comes out. I am annoyed at the fact that it's being delayed but only VAVLe truly knows how much damage the leak did.
Many people forget that the only truly internet-safe computer is the one that's not in any way, shape, or form, connected to a network period. Users generally do not know their vulnerabilities until they've been attacked. Ask any hacker about that. I'm sure Gabe's computer, if no other one in the office, was considered well-protected if for no other reason than that he's working on a sensitive project. It just happens that a hacker had his number and wanted what he had. Simple as that.Comment

The person who stole it: being the one who also distributed it, of course this is illegal and without this person the internet community may never have seen a portion of the HL2 source.
Wow, your morals seem to be a bit off...
The people who download it for "educational" purposes (notice the quotations, hint hint.) being those who would attempt to use it to decompile or reverse engineer HL2, creating cheats, hacks, or otherwise 'immoral' programs.
If the source code wasn't leaked, people would still attempt to make hacks. For all I know (haven't bothered downloading the source), the portion that was leaked may contain little concerning ways to hook the engine.
My post wasn't a question as to "who is the lesser of the two evils" but meerly a retorical post (which now is no longer retorical, as I have had to explain my reasoning).stooopid wrote..
Whats the figure, 1/3 of the source stolen? Would you really want to download 1/3 of the game via steam? -- Ok, lets say its not all at once, but in piecies. By the time they released each bit there is a possibility a new exploit could be released taking advantage of an already updated portion.
They can fix those problems (with Steam)stooopid wrote..
This really never crossed my mind, as I'm sure it won't cross the minds of those attempting to create cheats for HL2.
For the first few months, nerds wont even plug the network cable in because they'll be too busy trying to get Gordon Freeman and whats-her-name to have sex.stooopid wrote..
Not everyone is completely annoyed (at Valve) by this news
Really, people want to play HL2 and netcode can be fixed some other time...stooopid wrote..
Without posting a cheat site, it can be safely said cheats are still widely available for HL and mods (of course including CS) - even with Steam and VAC. Looking around I don't see too many happy customers.
Incidentally, this is the SAME strategy Valve used against OGC and other powerful cheats. First, the developed Steam, then they developed VAC. First they ensured their market presence and their revenue model, then they made the customers really happy.Comment
