Her not knowing the game is understandable, I just think it's funny because underage smoking is illegal but throwing a smoke grenade in CS is only illegal in Alaska.

All baised gamer feelings aside, this was a well-written funny article. Really neat to see another part of CS when i'm stuck without any gaming centers around where I live in Texas. That was some good shit.

There's a noticeable "behind enemy lines" tone that the reporter gives off, but i'm not seeing a whole lot to pan the article on other than the decision to talk to Angel, who naturally irritated me more than the reporter.



I can see that she got hung up quite a bit on "fag" and "gay", but i can also see how this would trip up anyone not familiar with the vernacular of our little subculture. Really, even as a person fully indoctrinated to the gamer meaning of "gay" and "fag", saying such before hugging is pretty weak and it just gets tossed around too much. The mainstream social difference between "fag" and "nigger" is actually quite even, with the only separator being that "gay" can potentially apply to a larger range of people. It's just that OUR scene has a skewed scale on the two words.



The "smoking" bit, made no reference to either SGs or actual smoking. It was just vague in the sense that she had no idea what the hell was going on and acknowledged that she didn't. Nothing more. Singling this out is picking nits.



I'd also like to hear where the "anti-teenager" thing is coming from, because i'm sure as hell not seeing it.

This is not a UK phenomenan particularly, I tink there are many more hang ups over sexuality stateside and in teentypes generally than Here or amongst adults of reasonable education. CS is a macho game of sorts, and the stereo typical geek/nerd online gamer resplendant in Manson Tshirt, Glasses, acne and spunkstained keyboard, probably needs to assert his masculinity within the game (and without,) as much as possible in self reassurance. Afterall I doubt there are many heterosexual or indeed ANY sexual teenage online gamers. I mean when I was a teenager the thought of staying playing computer just didnt cross my mind, it was a caseof out do sport get chicks. Its only now approaching middle age and future coronaries, secure in the knowledge of my missus that I began to play online... Who knows, I cant wait for a proper sociological study to be done on the phenomena say in 5 years time, when hl2 is approaching its end, and we are all biowet wired into the net..
