Just use a .reg file to delete the cd key value.



Simple.



I doubt they can open files on your computer like .reg file. Therefore it is undetectable :P



It is pretty easy to reset it though.



However, you really should have no need to change cd keys... unless you have brothers and friends that come over and want to play on their own cd for stats etc. That is the only valid point that people against "cd key changer" banning have.

I've got half-life and cs install on both my computers but I only had one copy of it back then. Now I have two copies of it but I had to use a CD key changer to change the keys round as I didn't want to have to uninstall, reinstall and update everything again. Am just wondering will this mean I'll get banned from servers now?

When you un-install Counter-Strike Retail (or Mod) it does not remove your cd-key from your registery. It stays there.

I was banned from my fave servers for pissing off the admins. So i sold my CS Retail and bought a new one.

I was still banned after the install of the new cs retail i bought. in fact it never asked me to enter the cd-key during installation. after a few tries i found out that it just doesn't get deleted. I had to change it manually in the registery.



How will VAC know it has changed? Will they compare your cdkey and wonid on a database?

ive been doing a bit of research on the matter of banning cheats and it appears no1 has been banned as yet. Seems valve is all talk and no action

I've paid for all my half-life games (except for CS, I've used the mod version whole time) which includes HalfLife, Op For, AND Blue Shift. So don't think this is a "whining warez dood" comment.



Just observing, Valve considers cd key changers a cheat, but other than the fact they let you circumvent a ban, how do they affect gameplay? Yes yes yes, the cheater can simply change keys and go back to cheating, but hey, that's only gonna work as many times as they have keys, right? Sooner or later, they're gonna run out of legit keys and its done, unless they play on non-secure servers.



So anyway, the cynic in me sees a little more sinister side to the VAC aside from "helping prevent cheating..." Seems to me we've been duped into helping Valve create a cd-key system just like Blizzard has for its games....



Again, not that I think this is bad, just concerned as to what that "next step" might be and the fact that Valve never said they were including this as a "cheat".

install cd key changer on cd > change cd key > remove cd > play half-life

or u can just make .reg files that change ur cd keys...just as easy as a cd key changer.
