Maphack has been around since the middle of Diablo II Reg, and D2Hackit is the tool that lead to duping and chest hacking, Modules like Pindabot or Shopbot were also around before chest hacking, and they don't hurt anyone, they simply automate a simple task for you. When I say hack or cheat, I typically mean something that affects other users as well. Or at the very least, something that causes a disturbance to the gaming experience of others. I don't corilate using Pindabot to do MF runs with Chest hacking or Duping which caused massive amounts of lag.
chest hacking is pretty old now, lethal... blizzard stopped that a few months ago. the current cheats out now are maphack and the d2hackit modules.
which, of course, are used by 80% of people playing diablo. including me.
But I see what you are saying as well, because Chest hacking and Duping were stopped, the only thing people really do is use those modules and maphack. Comparitivly to their bigger meaner brother hacks, they do far less (if any) real damage to a legit players gaming experience.Eagle25 wrote..
That is why it doesn't ban people on their first offense. And of course, if tons of people are complaining about being banned when they are truely not cheating, Valve will look into it.
what happens if for some reason it bans you by "mistake" what happens from there on?earthsfate wrote..
Bans that admins place to NOT get added to the "Master ban list."
when they mean cd key changer do they mean half life cd key changer? i am confused...wat if the server banns u for being stupid/idiotic and u gota change ur cd key, do i still get banned?
It is only bans that the VAC Modules place that are.
So if some dickhead admin decides to ban you simply because he doesn't like the name "Mr Dickhead Admin is GAY!" it doesn't mean you'll be banned from every secure server from here to Istanbul.Comment

Well, even if it does, it would only ban you from secure servers, in which case wouldn't apply if you are playing on an insecure one.
From what they said before its pretty simple, you can cheat to your hearts content on unsecure servers. They haven't said if they will actually log your actions on them or not.
Eg; if you only cheat on unsecure servers, but decide to play clean on secure ones, would it still check to see if you were cheating on the unsecure one and ban you from all the secure ones?Comment

This is great, finally a global ban. Maybe I can enjoy playing soon again. :)
I'd pay for a half-life 2 if there ever will be one, maybe they should eliminate ******s by having a login system instead. Let's say you can set your own password and you have a override password in case you forget your password. Some login systems like mmorpg, or like in steam... Ah well... guess they already thought of that then...damn
Anyway, good job valve, keep up the good work!
And to all whiners "trying cheats" for the fun of it and getting banned:
Section 3D clearly states this:
D. The Program may include functionality designed to identify software or hardware processes or functionality that may give a player an unfair competitive advantage when playing multiplayer versions of any Valve software or modifications thereof ("Cheats"). You agree that you will not directly or indirectly disable, circumvent, or otherwise interfere with the operation of software designed to prevent or report the use of Cheats. You acknowledge and agree that either Valve or the online multiplayer host of the Program (or any other Valve product) may refuse to allow you to participate in online multiplayer games relating to this Program (or any other Valve product) if you use Cheats in connection with the Program (or any other Valve product). Further, you acknowledge and agree that an online host may report your use of Cheats to Valve, and Valve may communicate your history of use of Cheats to other online hosts of the Program (or any other Valve product).Comment

Actually, i was just testing the anti cheat software on my server 2 c if their was a working cheat cause some1 said that they worked and some1 else said they had stopped it.
Testing? Riiiiiiight. Don't we all have to "test" every now and then. Hey! Lets test the same cheat that works over and over again to see if they can detect it yet!
Cheating by any means is a disgrace to your own skill, if any.
And yes, you have to be caught a few times before being actually banned. 1 this is for people who might actually change for the better, and stop cheating, and 2 in case it actually fails, and a cheat isn't actually present, yet it detects one.
And finally, if you DO still want to "test cheats," make your server unsecure, then you can test all day long, without the worry of being banned from your own server!
As long as the IP's are slightly different it shouldn't really matter (last 2/3 digits) if not.. umm, test it out? :)
As for battle.net, wait a few months, Warcraft III is new, Warcraft III may be a cinch, the packets were already figured out during the BETA stage. And as for Diablo II, 90% of the people who cheated, abused, horribly. When duping / chest hacking / etc were available, many people used them to such an extent that it lagged the servers for everyone, including the legit players. They were literally forced to crack down, before their service was completely ruined. Of course, deleting over 7,000 accounts of chest hackers was funny shit. However, comparativeley to CS, cheating on Battle.net was MUCH more widespread, there tend to be less morals when you are only playing for yourself, and the generally maturity level tends to be much lower (lack of self-control and respect for others, typically leads to cheating).
As for CS2, don't be so nieve yet, no game is completely hack free, and never will be. Just as the CD companys were defeated by scotch tape and felt tip markers with their new "anti-piracy" measures. :)
Fear my magic marker you rich baffoons.
Convicted Felon for assault with a deadly weapon: "Honest officer! If you give me this 45 baretta I wont harm a fly!"
Um, if you're so damned worried about cheaters getting in to your server, or playing with you, why would you resort to their level to so called 'test' the system? Its plain hypocritical. Read the rest of the artice, it clearly says mail him PERSONALLY if you believe there are working hacks. When people say things like that it sounds more like they want to "test if there are any working cheats out" so they can USE the working cheats to CHEAT. *gasp!*
If you're turely 'anti-cheat'... whats the point of worrying about it at all? Just ban them if you're an admin, vote kick them if you're a guest, or leave. You don't have to be just as lame as them. You KNOW what the cheats do already, if someone shoots you from the vent in assault to the back of the truck, then you KNOW somethings fucked, there should be no need to go download every damn version of OGC, OpenGL wallhack, Aimbot, just to see exactly which one it is... unless you want to cheat yourself.
Thats the reason i tried it THIS time. The ONLY time i have tried a cheat online is 2 check the anti-cheat software, i did not even select a team if i got in with it working.
Thats when the lan comes in, every couple of months i tried the Cheats on a lan. This is the only time i have ever actually used them.
Sorry if i didnt make that clear, but i have been playing for 2 years and im proud 2 say i have never cheated online.Comment

Ok, now to clear some things up here:
1. Ban server is not up yet; quote from Erik J: "We have to run a process on the ban server to add the bans in. Just want everything to settle in first."
2. The new module is not detecting a cd-changer program but: the same IP using x WonID over y time
3. You should NOT test cheats anymore, if you are not certain if it's getting detected send the info about it (downloadplace etc.) to EricS@valvesoftware.comComment

I know there are people out there who actually do test the system for good reasons, but from what I've seen recently, a lot of people have been taking that excuse to cheat.

"I thought maybe they updated VAC and it would block this aimbot!"
"You just 'tested' it last round..."
Sometimes it just doesn't add up.
To all: If someone comes into your or any other server you are playing in and you believe they are cheating, instead of taking actions directly in your own hands to find out exactly which cheat it is, do the next best thing; Simply get their name, WonID, and if possible, their IP addy, and e-mail em to Valve.
Or, you could do a little social engineering, and find out exactly which cheat they are using then report that.
I can assume that the cheaters obviously know Valve has put a stop to quite a few of them (Hell, I know a lot of cheaters read this website). Not to give any cheaters ideas, but if they were smart, they wouldn't exactly go about telling everyone exactly which cheat they are using to get around VAC, as that would only get it patched quicker.
In which case, if they do decide to be sneaky, you simply have to play the game with them, pretend you're a cheater yourself, and in dire need of a working cheat.Comment

I need to know something.. where do the ban's from VAC go? because my banned.cfg has TWO wonid's and I know that I myself, have banned more people than 2 permanently. I dunno, it seems like AdminMod and VAC both have different places to store the wonid/name's of people I have banned, does anyone know?Comment
