    Since none of these changes will ever appear in CS unless whoever making the decisions has already thought of them and put them in as their own, I offer you one Retail-er's opinion on how to improve CS;

    i've been playing since 1.1, (well 1.0 but i sucked too much and went to play UT against bots :) ) and therefore I don't have much of a sense of history when it comes to major changes. I also had no idea this was how aiming worked; i knew it was random, but damn... MY personal opinion of how to make CS better is:

    1) Reduce random headshots (make the randomizer slanted against hitting the head after say the 4th or 5th shot), and use rizzuh's idea of removing long range headshots

    2) Change jumping back to 1.3 jumping, OR make the penalty come on the second jump (one jump wouldn't make a real soldier slow down that much, loaded down or not, and far too often we're just taking advantage of something that was SET UP in the map when it was designed, i.e. before jumping was changed, and having the penalty on the second would make all the maps play much more like the old; it would un-'break' italy a tad)

    3) Speed up the walkspeed just a bit, not even to 1.3 levels, just faster then it is now (if you master it, you can run pretty quickly while being silent, especially on certain surfaces...)

    4) This one is reaching, but, have said certain surfaces make you silent while running (anyone remember the last time they made a big THUMP THUMP THUMP while running on sand?)

        hay riz, I got bored and decided to add my useless opinion to this even more useless discussion!

        First off, Sun Tzu philosophy is so good that it endured a few thousand years, which proves that chinese minds are simply better than other minds. I dont think people should flame mr. Tzu because he is probably 10 times smarter than you are.

        btw, riz, y cant u just move the crossfire here? Am I the only person that can still appreciate that old sack of a forum?

          I'm glad that spiffman used to like this site!!! Nicely said spiff, I agree with a lot of what you wrote.

          Crossfire needs articles. Articles need talent. Talent needs reason. Crossfire does not provide reason. I don't want to re-open it, so I'm not going to. The fact is that this conversation is probably more crossfire-esque than anythnig else. At least we're on topic, fairly mature, and all riff-raffing. The CS crossfire was meant to be a comments thread like this: statement, response, statement, response. In the end, it turned out to be: statement, statement, statement, statement, statement, statement. People would just address the article and not the comments.

            I'd love to see crossfire back, even if it was a mini crossfire, just a comment thread like these with a topic.

              Hopefully the forums (if ever finished) will fill that void. Like I said, this is more crossfire than the crossfire was.

                  I'm kind of offtopic but I have the Audio.90 from Plantronics (formally known as HS1) and I have to get used to predicting the enemy all over again. I know this is offtopic but I had no where else to post this. It's like the sound I recognized as the enemy "behind me and coming from the right" actually now is something like "in front of me coming from the left" I have no idea how this happened or why I get different recognitions. Or, it could be very well that I have become retarded. Any suggestions would be nice.

                    A lot of people i know have complained about that. The sound system has changed, I'm not quite sure how, but it's a lot harder to pin-point a players location based on sound. Kinda seems like footsteps come from everywhere. it's just one of those little changes that add up to make 1.4/5 a frustrating release, for me at least.

                      I thought it was the headphones because the cheap $10 ones I had before made it look like I had a wallhack. I could even pin-point the location in 1.4.

                          I remember joining CS around the time it was getting popular(like on the PCXL disc) and there were large ammounts of new servers everytime you refreshed. I remember sniping through the aim sight of the colt on the old dust that had about half as many boxes as the current one. I remember getting four knife kills in one round in cs_docks. I remember emailing a member of the CS team and getting a real response. I rememebr playing jeepathon the first day 7.1 came out. I remember when it went retail and all the bullshit that people were saying about the CS Team being selfish bastards and actually wanting to get paid for their hard work. Happy Birthday to CS.

                            Agreed, crossfire articles got to be an opinion expressed 200+ times. There was no way to have a reasonable debate.

                              Rizzuh, I turned them off and still I get confused. I have a question though. Isn't A3D hardware oriented? I always thought it was, I didn't know the headset had to do anything with it. I was even more confused when I turned A3D back on and before with my old headset, It used to say something like "A3D hardware not detected" when I was connecting to a server. Now, when it's on, It doesn't even say that anymore. D:. I didn't get a new or better soundcard, it's just freaky.

                                nah, i have both eax and a3d turned off, and i would say it's just me being confused if not a number of people would have noticed the same thing.
