Even though I think rizzuh is a corner camping ass hat, I will agree with him that PHP for serving web based content is a much more efficient way of doing things. The overhead associated with running a Java2 website is much much much larger and is much slower. I'm working for GE/GNF on a Nuclear reactor simulator written in Java2 and Fortran [Java2 for the GUI and Fortran90 for all the calculations]...we were going to do the whole thing in Java2 but it appears that Java2 is too slow and too memory inefficient to handle the math. Moreover, the web interface to the whole thing is in ASP, why? Because Java is too slow and has too much overhead to compete with even ASP... Using Java2 on a website is comparable to GE using PERL for a reactor simulator, sure it can do what we need it to do, but is it the easiest/most efficient way of doing so?
Bottom Line, Xios is just using the "Java" buzzword to suck money out of people who don't bother to spend the 10 minutes to do something for themselves.Comment

The xios guy's came to our clan wanting to sponser us, and give us all this free "extremely advanced" hosting. HAHA. What a joke. I work with php myself, and to sit there and see those guy's tell me that what they had created was the best thing in the world was funny as hell. I could write my own system, just like what they have there in 3 day's tops, using php. Their whole ego trip bullshit, completely strayed me from ever thinking about using their product, even though they were giving it to me for free. Xios is a buggy pos system, utilizes a worthless language, for what they are trying to accomplish, and will not get far doing what they are doing now.Comment

Rizzuh, What posting script do you use, that makes it so easy, instead of writing the actual things, when it looks like all you guys have to do is write the topic, username, and actual article and it fills in the time and etc because i want/need it

J2EE should not simply be compared to what PHP does. J2EE can actually do everything (except for native platfor code but u have JINI for that).
i belive they choose the right technology, they are using little but if they intend to grow in an e-sports service provider that will eventually be the right choice after all, without being stuck with mixed code of several languages.
Yes u found a bug, yes they can solve that. bet u had hundred of bugs too... let's now diss on PHP?
PS: I love your site and worh though, only defending Java a little with all the bad publicity it gets and competition from MS .NET.

Btw: PhP is so popular because it's so easy to use and cheap to implement for web providers. It's a good choice for simple tasks, otherwise u should go for ASP, JSP.Comment

ASP over PHP? My ass. From working at GE I've learned one thing: Everything I can do in ASP, I can do better in PHP. ASP can't even read binary files without going through alot of hassle. Ever tried to dynamically include a dynamic file? ASP won't let you. You end up using iframes and other little hacks. Which is all ASP is, a hackjob extension to VB so that even retards can make dynamic webpages. For every 5 lines of ASP I write I loose 2 IQ points and could write the same thing in 1 line of PHP. ASP is derived from VB, not one of the more gracefull languages around. PHP is amazingly powerfull, its obvious you haven't done much in PHP, because when it comes down to it, you can do most ANYTHING in PHP. I've written IRC Bots [java can do this better], Site Backends [much like CS-Nation's system], Red/Black Tree demo [try doing that in ASP, I dare you, although java can do this], Mini-language parsers [type-strict languages like java would make this harder to do], Boolean Algebra evaluator [postfix or infix], even an online game. ASP is for when you need to do something like read from an Access database or from an Excel workbook, which you can do from PHP just fine but has that extra overhead MS puts in to discourage outside developers. The one thing ASP has on PHP is how it handles sessions...that is it.
Before you knock a language make sure you've spent atleast 1 or 2 sleepless nights using it and have developed something more than a "hello world" app.Comment

rofl... CS really sux big time :) all the CS people seem to do is argue over stupid issues creating an unfriendly atmosphere. Q3 "wrockz" u ( and before the Spell checkers jump it, it's what we call SLANG ). Go get a grip and play ure lil iD software wannabe game instead of arguing over a company who is trying to make life easier on the people who can't make web sites
