I was really good when CS 1.4 first came out, now I am on a steady suckiness spiral... I hope I don't hit bottom.. that would be disasterous :-/



But I usually play better and enjoy it more in say a 15 maxplayers server than a 32 maxplayers server. It's less hectic, and you can actually use strategy in the servers with a lesser number of people.

It's not that I constantly suck. Like rizzuh, I'm maddeningly inconsistent. But I certainly devote most of my time to helping the team and accomplishing objectives - if I get a good score, that's great too.



Playing the game "right" is, in my opinion, its own reward.

I can certainly identify with rizzuh ... I'm a VERY streaky player. If I can find a groove and stick with it, I'll complete objectives tactfully, find good synch with my teammates, and often find myself with the highest score ratio on the server. If my concentration's the least bit rattled, I tend to get a bit manic with my aim and make silly tactical errors.



Another thing that folks who just can't seem to make a decent round in Counter-Strike need to keep in mind is the fact that CS is a bit more demanding on input devices than many other PC games. A good mouse/trackball won't make you a better player outright, but it WILL give you a distinct boost in your aiming confidence. Personal preference and comfort is a big factor, as well. I'm arthritic, and I've found WASD keyboard movement to be terribly restrictive over the years (not to mention often painful) -- investing in a Belkin SpeedPad improved my game (and comfort) ten-fold. That OEM keyboard and mouse you're using isn't gonna suit everyone.

Hell I just play cs for fun. I like the new "kamikaze" feature and i generally do crazy stuff. (ie skywalking, etc.) I don't take the game seriously. Some 12 year old called me a pussy when i was making an attempt at skywalking. I told him to cool it. "It is just a game, have fun while it last, don't act like a fu**tard." But he keeps on bragging about how he can own my ass and about how lame I am.

I'm BAD at the game. i have good days where i can kill a few CTs, maybe get more kills than deaths, but most of the time, i'm horrible. i'm also 13, so not all kids are exelent, but i'm a teen, so i'm not sure if i would count as a kid.

asspennies - as long as youre having fun your score doesnt matter...uh huh

maybe you were just playing with newbies. or you got like lucky kills(ie. they reloading, they throwing nades, etc.)

It could have been beta 4, it's hard to tell. That whole time is kind of a blur. I'm pretty sure it was from before Barking Dog was involved. But they may have been the ones who improved the scoreboard...



Yep. I've been playing a long time. I still have some very old beta 1 - 2 shots, when I was still going by the incredibly stupid moniker of "Skd."

Great article, I can relate. Just when I feel that I am getting some of my 'skills' back, I get capped by a 12 year old with an ego that is simply too big to be contained in his body. Now, with the addition of built in voice comm, I get to hear about how I was so 'owned' or 'ass raped' by the 6-10 other children playing in the server.



I hit my prime during beta 4 - 5.2(ish). Since then, I just make getting lucky look like it was intentional. Right now, I could run through a list of all the fun features of the orignal version of CS. But, I wont. If you played back then.. you know the things I'm talking about. If you don't, then you don't really need to know.



It all comes down to this; In beta 1, I was pleased with a score of 11-4, now.. all these years later, that score still impresses me.
