Alright Zips, he's trying to get his point across, but it could be done in a much more mature way. He's frustrated, I understand. Jojojohanson, just know you're not the only one feeling the same thing.

Zips, does it mean anything to you if I were to tell you that I've been playing in CAL (premier one season, main a bunch) for years, and I've played in atleast 20 LAN tournaments? I don't mean to brag, but I can confidently say that I don't suck, and CS:S feels vastly different then 1.6, and either the hitboxes, or hit detection is very different.

Apparently, it feels the same to you. Maybe something is wrong with my/our computers, maybe I'm confusing one factor for another, maybe you don't have the skill to tell the difference. I don't want to take cheap shots at you, so I wont. Trying to solve this by saying "well you probably suck" is a ridiculous argument, but I think you should recognize that there are people that don't suck that definitely feel a difference. Sometimes it's a lack of hit detection, sometimes it just feels different but not necessarily worse.

My computer at home isn't that great, so it could be that. But I experience the same 'feel' at the Rival cafe in my town, which has very nice computers. I have an almost 3mbit cable connection, I get 20 ping on average to SoCal servers, I think it's safe to say that it's not my connection.

Anyway, to end this rant, if there is a discepency, I think Valve will atleast attempt to clear it up either upon the game's release or soon after. Don't you hate when you get your haircut and somehow there's hair EVERYWHERE on you? When I say everywhere, oh, you know where.

for a fix in lag and aim do these in console or in autoexec.cfg :

          mat_bumpmap 0

          mat_specular 0

          mat_fastspecular 0

          r_dispusestaticmeshes 0

          r_3dsky 0

          mat_dxlevel 80

          cl_cmdrate 30

          cl_updaterate 20

          cl_rate 10000

          rate 10000

and these should help you not lag that much and help your "aim" probs. but ya i hope they patch the registering cuz you can be point blank and hit for 15 damage in 2 shots when u unload a clip into a guy... thats not realistic even in a game environment it would be more realistic then that :P

from what i remember theres been a different "feeling" to the game after every update, from the betas to CS retail, and beyond up to 1.6. every version (i felt) had a different "feel", from the aiming to the shooting to the recoil. people just learn to adapt and thats that. the same will happen to css.

The hit boxes and hit detection compared to the latest line of engines is really a joke, they decided to take more into account physics than doing a per polygon hit detection (ala SOF). IMHO everyone who has been waiting patiently for Half Life 2 will be disappointed, and as far as the whole hey we built an engine from scratch. So did doom 3 and they got it right the first time so what's their excuse? I believe yes they had a legitimate break in and loss of code but that was their own carelessness and the password probably was just as bland as the word "Password" we've seen their carelessness before and recently (Gabe newell hack).

Lastly I'm not really waiting for Half Life 2 nor do i plan on being first in line to pick this game up, 6 months ago yes, 4 months ago at beginning of summer yes, but now it just seems like they are stalling now to actually FINISH the game which leads me to believe that when the code was stolen they didn't have much code to begin with.

The hit boxes in CS always seemed to change a tid bit with each update, but the registering was always fine from when I played.

In CS:S it's the opposite: The hit detection/registering is terrible but the hitboxes are fine. I think the majority of CS1.6 clans won't move to CS:S with a netcode like this.

I don't see how people can say the registering is fine, though. I've tested it with friends who live only a few blocks away. You can count a second or so between shooting and then registering. And, yes, this is on a fast connection. I'm talking about twenty, to no greater than 35 or 40 pings here.

I know it won't be as smooth as CS 1.6 in the end, but it must get better than this.

Apparently they have sent a possible release build to vivendi. They are probably waiting to see what they say.

Once the game is released, people will figure out exactly what to do with commands such as cl_smoothtime and cl_interp, not to mention serverside commands etc...

Just give it time for people to figure out how to tweak the game so that it is more sharp and respsonsive, and all will be good.

For one thing Cliffe hasn't really been on the West coast for a while now. Cut the man some slack. In fact, cut them all some slack, I don't see you fixing any problems with a major gaming engine.
Zips, does it mean anything to you if I were to tell you that I've been playing in CAL (premier one season, main a bunch) for years, and I've played in atleast 20 LAN tournaments? It must be a miracle among miracles then, that I'd be the only one who think they're fine. A miracle I say.

So what's this whole point I've been making? Oh yeah, you have a problem with the hit detection, send in some proof to Valve with your suggestions, it's a LOT better than whining here. Which is exactly what he's doing, and as a result nothing will be changed and he'll continue to cry about it.

It's making me kinda sad that every comments thread i see on CSN now always gets flamed by some idiot who starts to shout "oh noes eg meh bullts rnt registring, valve sucks teh ass 1111" honestly, if you knew the basic principles of beta testing anything, you would post this in a civilised manner via the bug reporter or the steampowered.com forums. I always try to remain impartial to problems such as this, but i believe that the 'registry' bugs will be ironed out once the game/netcode is fully optimized. You can't just expect valve to switch to an entirely new engine built from scratch, and know it's exact network capabilities first time round, which is why this is a beta test. I can't stress my point enough, and i feel sorry for people like zips who have their comments marred by idiots who aren't grown up enough to post here.

The bottom line is this: If you think there is a bug/problem in the game, please use the Bug Reporting Tool that came packaged with the CS:Source Beta (default key F4) or use the steampowered.com forums or even the appropriate CSN forums or e-mail Valve directly, but for god's sake, just don't litter the CSN comments threads with pointless rubbish, that isn't how you get Valve to listen to you.

Well just to sound off, I haven't noticed any "problems" with the aim either - in fact, on average I play better on Source than I did before (there could be other reasons for that though - the fact that there's just one map and my new computer spring to mind). The bottom line is, I don't have a problem with the aim in the beta. The dynamic crosshair doesn't even bug me.

I also would like to see some substantial proof that the aim is different. I'm not sure what exactly, but something other than some guy saying, "the aim is different" is required to convince me.

if u get lag in cs:s then its client side, nothin to do with netcode.

i'd point u to the post that cliffe or someone from valve said about netcode, but ur not worth it, i dont care if u dont play source... immature F**ks
