CBC mentions CS2

A reader informed us of this CS television moment on CBC's The National.

CBC's "The National", somewhat like Canada's version of "60 minutes" (note: it's more like NBC's Nightly News, not a news magazine) had a feature on online gaming cafes tonight, focusing mainly on the game Counterstrike. It had an interview with and shots of Gooseman working on CS 2, including a new MP5 model and an animation of a hitbox skeleton getting shot in the back. It also had lots of in game views of the game in action, but most of the show was discussing how the police in Richmond BC want to shut down the internet gaming cafes because they "promote gang behaviour and recruitment and the buying and selling of drugs" because they stay open 24 hours, and also due to the violent nature of the games they allow to be played there.

Hahaha I think it's funny that CSN headlines this news as being about Gooseman and CS2 when the interview was really all about shutting down Internet cafes because they promote gang violence (allegedly, that is.)

Yeah... I put "Includes" gooseman and cs2.



Not "focuses on" just for that reason. I put the interesting stuff in the headline. If I really thought the banning of internet cafe's was a possibility I would have put more about it. I just assume its like the german politician who wants to ban cs and other games ( just bs)

WTF? Terrorists are super heroes? I doubt he said it like that...

Yeah, i was thinking that quote had to be edited in to the wrong place or something. Maybe he was referring to the CTs, who knows. Too bad we cant just see the program.

There IS a problem with Gang violence in the Internet Cafe's, there have been something like 5 machete murders in them in the past 2 years or so.

heh, I could only imagine how stoked some of these people probably get over this game in real life.. I get to hear some in the game as it is now with threats and negative vibes coming from their mic.

I watched this program last night. I thought it was very good, especially to see what goosemans kitchen looks like! hah But one thing i really laughted at was when they said that it promotes the sale of drugs,gang behaviour,etc. ITs a videogame and nothing more.

Provide a platform of competition that the public can get actively involved in, let it get real popular to the point that people pour in money to it, and the chances are that a minority of those involved will be inclined to use violence.



Happens with football/soccer particularly, and has even been known with tennis and cricket. CS is no different, except for the fact it encourages violence and has a more concentrated male audience.



It's sickening. Any violence due to a game intended for safe entertainment (particularly when those involved are simply spectating) is terrible.

Good points, its obviously faulty to say "See? People who play this game are violent, therefore the game causes violence."

BTW, can I just point out that Gooseman's name is Minh Le, not Min Lay. 'Min Lay' is how you pronounce it.
