For many, part of the CS appeal is vanity: The chance to be the hero.
Take this scenario:
You're the last remaining member of your team. There are 2-3 opponents hunting you down and your entire team is watching you, hoping you'll pull off a win.
Not only are you the "star" of the show, you have a whole group of complete strangers rooting for you. Unless you're camping, in which case everyone wants you dead, kicked, banned, arrested, incarcerated, and sacked. <sigh>
Now, you do something intelligent, like actually plant the damn bomb or even rescue the hostages and... <er, nevermind>
Now, you do something crazy, like taking on all 3 enemies at once and somehow manage to win. Cheater! ;-)
Upon the start of the next round, you get a short series of "gj"s; affirmation of your skills by your peers.
If this doesn't appeal to gamer vanity, I don't know what does!Comment

That's definitely a part of it. For me, I think the epitome of CS is the lone terrorist, bomb on his back, fully armored and helmeted, with a fully loaded AK-47. Or the lone, fully equipped counter-terrorist, getting the hostages to safety, and with luck, shooting a couple of terrorists on the way (recently, I was losing 0-20 to these two terrorists on Italy. So I decide to go a different way. Nobody's guarding the hostages, I get them, charge out the long route, literally getting the jump on one of the terrorists for my first kill in 20 rounds, then bringing the hostages to safety and being sniped [But the hostages made it!])

Just want to say thanks to all the experienced players out there who actually give good advise to those of us that are new to cs. Yes... believe it or not there are people who are just learning to play. The new 1.4 may give the new guy a little better chance to learn but I understand the frustration of jump shooters and some other changes but beats the hell out of friday night reruns of Sandford and Son.Comment

GonePostal: Your conspiracy theory is inane. CS: CZ will not have any different multiplayer than what we are playing whenever the game is released.
If you haven't learned by now, there is always some kind of catch, it's just life.Comment

You are thinking, "Man, it's all riding on me now... they are counting on me... watching me!"
Dead peeps are thinking, "OMFG, JUST DIE FOR CHRRISTS SAKE, SOMEONE VOTE KICK HIM PLEASE!#!@#"
And other 3 alive enemies are thinking, "ROFL, this guys a newbie, check that 2 tk nade kills. Which to use, pistol or colt?"
Man, I can just imagine that, so god damn funny :XComment

I really tink that what makes CS is cool is because you realy have to think what ur doing- not like in Quake, unreal torn or SOF where u just go nuts junpping everywhere blowing the heads off everybodyelse.... in CS you are given a mission and u have to think about what u r doing or u could be out for the rest of the round - life is precious....Comment

Besides the excellent gameplay, I think an important reason why cs remain so popular, is the ability to be customized by anyone (scripts, models, maps++). Once u get a little sick of it (I think it will take a while before I get tired of cs though), u can add something new.
Same thing with the updates. The game changes regularly, and that keeps it alive.Comment

You need to sort your life out, if you are so anti 1.4, why not set up your own server and just play 1.1 for the rest of your life; let others (noobs or otherwise) just get on with it? If every game producer had your attitude, there would never be any progress; and we would all still be playing Pong or something...
This is so full of shit!!!
updates either: since 1999 CS has been constantly revamped with new features, maps and improvements many according to user feedback
HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
People fucking hate 1.4, only ones who like it are newbs who have no strat and no aiming skillz so they run around like little faggots and go full auto with AK47's and because the of the fuckers at the CS team they score random headshots. The CS team couldnt give a fuck about player feedback. They get payed by valve so they will keep pumping "BETTER" versions of CS to make more money. Fucking sellouts.
There should be a 1.1 or previous version of CS re-released, and you should be able to download it. It should be called "Counter-Strike EXPERT". Although this will never happen because as i have said before the people at the CS team could give a fuck less what the people who play the game actually think.
Fuck Condition Zero, Fuck CS team......Comment

rightly said.. c'mon guys... it aint so bads after all... i have been playing since beta 6 now.. n the bunnyhopping just beats the freak out of me.. not bcuz i cant.. its jus that the game aint realistic.. try it.. jump as high as u can continously... i'd say the jump yet has to be improved the way MAX PAYNE jumps... thats how realistic it should be
