I just want to know where the +50% of the community that do not like the jumping comes from. What are you basing that on? The poll here? The petitions? You have know way of knowing how many are for or against it.

Stop making up numbers if you want your arguments to have merit Postal.

See its a control of balance, people... Communisim failed because the people hated it... America is sorta in a Communisim mindset.. Just think about it for a second, laws control us, rich people control us, The Government Controls us... So who is more free now?

What's freedom? The ability to choose to do the right thing. Who chooses what is right? The Government. No one is free. Communism did not fail because of that. Russia is still communist. The people don't know anything else. it's just like CS. People fear what's different. They don't want change.

Is it controlling? Without a doubt yes, but control is needed in a game where exploitation and static play styles seem to dominate.
Key word here is too much control. There is some control needed, and some freedom needed. It's a balance. Just like realism and fun. This is what happens when the balance becomes unbalanced. Yes, the game is dynamic right now because it is new to everyone, but you will soon find out that camping is the new static.

I don't even care to argue that silly issue anymore.

CrazyNewbieGuy: you have no idea what communism is, apparently. Go read a book.

                    Damn.

This is the equivalent of someone releasing a "zoomed colt returns" patch, or a "wall-strafing is back" patch or maybe a "hostage jumping like in the good-old-days" patch... Good one guys...

                    "W00t! L3tz maek p4tch3s t0 br1ng bak @ll teh exploits!!!"

The whole thing is just a crutch for those without the patience to adapt to the new way CS is supposed to be played. I wish people would stop bashing Valve over this jumping issue. The bottom line is that this still the CS team's game and this is how they see the future. Its very likely how Condition Zero will play too.

How do people expect to be able to compete when they don't learn the skills required? Personally, I hope this patch is harpooned in Valve's first anti-cheat update... ;o)

This plug in actually kind of sucks. (Aside from the fact that I dont want to see it get popular anyway) It doesnt work perfectly... When you duck you slide a little ways with it, and also your +use key really stops you if the plugin is enabled.

Its fun for little goofy maps, like deagle5, but Its not cool over all (in my opinion.)

Ok I'm not a CS veteran, I only play since 1.0 and just casually but I thought this could be interesting:

HLDM: in 1.1.0.8 bunny jumping (the *real* bunny jumping) was removed in HLDM. This wasn't accepted by the HLDM community (cause this game is not about realism, bunny jumping had its place and was a skilled move that enhanced all movement possibilities).

That's when AG, AdrenalineGamer, really replaced classical HLDM: AG is a mod for HL that makes HLDM what the community wants it to be, ie: old physics yes. All clans play on AG, all matches use the old physics.

I'm showing this as an example: if a community doesn't like a change in the game it doesn't have to stfu and live with it, the community can make the game they want thanks to mods, plug-ins...

                          My 2 cents.

(But here CS aims for realism, so crappy jumps seem logical. Might be time to realize that realism != fun :P)

This is right from the horse's mouth at CPL.

I, like you have heard complaints from whiners every time a new release comes out. I thought that much of the complaints (prior to release) were more of the same9just trying to get attention), and hoped that all the changes were for the good of the competitive community. I was hugely dissappointed to find that 1.4 is not at all competition worthy. There are a few points I would like to address.

                              1) The biggest complaint by everyone is the jumping "stamina" addition. This basically makes your speed drop by 50% every time you jump. This very much detracts from the overall skill required to frag players, as they can no longer do anything to avoid your fire.

                              2) Running accuracy. Guns are now not accurate at all while running. At the same time, walking was slowed to literally crawl speed, without adding accuracy. This basically ensures that a player must stand totally still when firing at range to get any hits. Again, this unbalances match play by making it extremely difficult to ever use skill to overcome the advantages afforded to the opposing team on a lopsided map(especially on offense).

                              3) Limited strategic options. This is due to the lowered walk speed. You cannot walk to the other side of a map within the time allotted in match play, due to the slower walk speed. This is a huge problem, as any good player can tell you, sound is crucial to locating enemies(and every step you take while not walking or crawling makes a ton of noise). Basically, either round times will have to be drastically increased, or gameplay will be strictly limited to rushes - which are pointless, as you will be running(with no accuracy) towards stationary(and thus accurate) enemies with no way to "dodge" (aka jump around).

Topic one and two are related, and are problems because they remove skillsets which were required to achieve excellence in 1.3. 1.4 has essentially made cs into a 1-demensional "run-stop-point-and-click" tactical shooter, instead of a multi-faceted, relatively-fast-paced action game.

If it is not realistic to have Valve re-tool 1.4 to make it competition worthy, then I suggest that the CPL either revert to 1.3, or speed up the process on the "special CPL developed Game."

I recall the q3 community rejecting a point release which completely adjusted physics to remove strafe-jumping. I find our situation to be very similar, as this has slowed match-play to a halt.
