They did not implement the anit cheats in the betas.. well i think they didn't...
...this time without the cussing...
Valve/Steam are firms -- corporate entities. Along with this comes the profit maximization motive. Think about the following question for 10 seconds... Has cheating made CS more popular, less popular or has interest stayed the same?
Well?
Lets see... CS has been getting more popular (more active servers and more players) because its a great game, independent of the cheating. Meanwhile the number of cheaters on a given server per day has increased from 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.3.
Valve/Steam realize this. Its right there in Steam's operating notes: 3.4 billion player minutes per month; compare with AOL/Time/Warner at 3.6 billion viewer minutes per month.
Fixing cheats is a secondary (or perhaps tertiary) objective for Valve. Turning this whole thing into some dollars is a primary objective.
Got that?

Marijuana certainly doesn't deserve prohibition, as it has no side-effects that the nicotine and alcohol do not exhibit in some form.
If you smoke pot, the only time it can seriously damage your life is if the DEA busts down your door and hauls you off to prison.
I don't know if you you guys have known anyone who has been addicted to pot before, but I have. When I was in high school, my best friends parents smoked pot at least twice a day. It was sad. They used to pay attention to their three children, then gradually they became less important. Pot makes you lethargic, kills your braincells, and alters your reality to the point of impairment. Of course all of those side effects differ depending on the person. But I'm telling you that pot does and can affect people in a negative way.Comment

Wow you must be super smart!!!
Valve knows that cheaters turn away players thus losing profit so valve has been trying to stop the cheating problem...
Its all PR...Comment

Thats where you're wrong... cheaters dont turn other players away!! Look at the numbers yourself! CS has been getting more and more popular in spite (or perhaps in part because of) the cheats. Valve intends to make a profit from all the interest... one way or another.
Its all PR...

It is also legal in many countries, even the brittish goverment has relaxed laws on it, preffering to concentrate their efforts on dealing with the serious stuff.
It's very easy to group pot with things like crack and heroin, too. Pot is the antithesis of those hard drugs that might deserve a prohibition. Marijuana certainly doesn't deserve prohibition, as it has no side-effects that the nicotine and alcohol do not exhibit in some form.Comment

First, the numbers are from the Steam broadband operating model on steampowered. Its a business plan.
The numbers are increasing because ppl want to play the game for fun not to cheat!!
Second, it doesn't matter why people play, only that it is wildly popular and nobody is making money on it. If you were in charge of Valve you'd be rubbing your nuts trying to figure out how to turn some revenue on it somewhere... This isn't rocket science. You would be informed to know that Steam includes all kinds of nice features for "e-commerce" including credit card authorization, one-time fees, subscriptions, and related billing mechanisms. I don't make this stuff up. Its right there in the report (if you can read, of course).
Its coming people... maybe not in 1.4... but soon.
