CSGuard, C-D, and most of us are on the same team. Let's not flame our own team. I am sure that not mentioning CSGuard was an oversight and not intended as an offence.
I just used The All Seeing Eye to scan all of the active servers. Here are the stats:
Total HL Servers: 21,408
CSGuard Servers: 7,924 (37.0%)
C-D Servers: 2,705 (12.6%)
CSGuard & C-D Servers: 2,004 (9.4%)Comment

its great that ogc will start to dissapear., lately i havent even been able to play on a lan without people cheating.. and i know cs 1.4 is supposed to fix cheating, however, theres only one problem with 1.4.....it sucks!! they should leave cs as it is right now, just fix the cheats., thats all.Comment

i think its definitly possible to take legal action against a cheater, as long as money was involved in the incident....for example: you were in a tournament with a cash prize and were owning it up until some punk cheater came in and ruined everything.....while its highly unlikey that such circumstances would arise in a cs tourny (live admin, anti-cheats, etc...), how would some 57 year old arbitrator know?Comment

Guys... don't get your hopes up...
OGC, the infamous CS cheat that basically hacks every single thing in the game, has ceased public development for CS 1.3.
They have ceased PUBLIC development. That doesn't mean there will be a stop to all OGC... it just means a stop to public OGC. Sure, this means a heck of a lot less cheaters... but it also means that when you see another cheater around, anti cheat won't be able to stop it, because it couldn't be patched, due to it not being released.Comment

I've always wondered whether or not you could take legal action against a cheater for I dunno, emotional damage?
Well, you could always say they're violating your right to the pursuit of happiness, although that's a stretch. Considering that people under the age of 18 really don't have any rights (bill of rights applies to those over 18), that could be a problem, tho I don't know about the content of the Constitution.
I wonder if the way cheats modify the HL engine would be a violation of the license agreement with Valve...CS modifies it, I know, but is that different than the way cheats do?Comment

Cool, no matter what happens down the road, this just proves that we WILL win the WAR against cheaters. They have won many battles, but it is obvious that by the dedication of the anti-cheat designers that they are in it to win the war! That was just proved by the most popular cheat by FAR makers throwing in the towel.
As far as the source code being released...think about this...how many cheaters do you see that are actually intelligent? Not many, if there were, there would be a LOT more cheats out than the few that are. Which just goes to show that in the land of cheaters, there are a select few that have the brainpower to design them, the others are your basic idiotic, no skill LOSERS who must download their skill in order to be a threat. Let's just hope that the coders out there with the talent to design things like that will join the right side of the war, which I will assume the latter seeming as any person with a fair amount of intelligence and decency would not give these lame little kids the ammo they need to ruin everybody's good time.
Just my 2 cents!
