3 terms have changed CS:



1. n00b

2. camper

3. cheater



These were all introduced by new players, many of whom switched from pure DM games like Quake etc, so not only total new players to online-gaming..



cs_ship in beta 4, 5 & 5.2, no laming, no cheaters & no calling 'campers' to the Ts who stayed near the hostages, those were the days..



CS is still fun though, and CS 1.4's new features will rock (beta testing it)..

I don't think cheating is the worst part. The worst part is how people treat each other. I'm talking about respect. Back in the day people said "gg" at the end of a round, nowadays it's more like "you f*ck, lamer, cheating bastard etc."

Another thing: Newbie once described someone who was new to the game, alright. But no more, today it's used as an insult.

You can still have fun at CS, all you need is a server with cool people you know and who play regularly there. Spares you lots of frustration. :)

Let the "n00bs" cheat and swear at each other on the free-for-all servers.

True. Unfortunately it's easier to be an asshole than to respect others, or even kindly aknowledge superior skill...two things that, in my opinion, are the mark of good players and those that make playing CS enjoyable. Perhaps people don't realize that how they conduct themselves in CS says alot about their character...maybe it's all just a self-respect issue.

You've obviously never played with a hardcore cheater, it's pretty easy to have your game ruined when you get shot in the head when the guy starts shooting at you before he turns the corner.



It's one thing to whine about being killed legitimately by a skilled player... it's quite another to try and alert an admin that their is a hacker present.



I think it's funny how people who have been playing CS since 1.0 come on here and think that they're cs veterans...

I 100% agree with Hollowpoint. Yeah I agree, the best time I had playing CS was when I played regulary on one server.



Also when everyone alerts admins ot cheaters the only evidence they always give is "wallhack" or "x headshots no wa." Personally if I'm running down a corridor I expect someone to jump around the corner and shoot at head level cause they hear me, while hte majority cry "wallhack."

I don't know about you guys, but I think that ever since CS went retail, any dumbass off of the street could pick up the game. I mean shit, some people still don't believe me when I tell them that CS has been around for over 2 yrs. P.R.-Post Retail, lets 13 yr olds who think the game box looks cool buy it, get in and get their asses kicked, then go look for some cheats on some euro CS website. When CS was low key, there were only players that cared about the game that were in pubs. I never heard anyone yell the damn word "hack" in a CS server until the retail came out. I think that there should be servers that only retail people can play in, and others that the download can play in. The retail people are probably too stupid to realize that they can download it for free anyways. Nuff said

CS will thrive as long as the integrity and realism of CS is preserved in the game, and as long as server admins donate enough time to properly run a server (i.e. good anti-hacks, proper monitoring, and keeping the server enjoyable, not a swear-fest insult). Newbies don't bother me, as we were all new at one time.



The game will need to improve the graphics also...

hey im 14 and i play the game, ive been playing it since beta 6

but i aint no whinging mutha F@ka like other 13 year olds that ive seen around. what tiks me of is 7 year old playing the game and using the f@king microphone. aswell as cheaters, fucking hardcore cheaters, and the fact that u know theyre cheating and theres nothing u can do about it.



but every now and then u just start getting flukey, getting 3 headshots with 10bullets of a colt, or just go plain bezerk and killing eveyone and what do u hear? CHEATER!!!! thats fucking anoying

How closely have you looked at the article? I am definately not against new players -- as we all were newbies at some stages (except for those "original players"). Here is an extract from the article...

I never say new players are bad, I just talk about their effects on the CS community at large - in fact, for CS to stay alive new players are required. Very good article. While I my not an ub3r l337 player I consider myself fairly good (1-1 to 3-1 ratios depending on my luck that day), I got in to CS just at the end of version 1 and while i was technicly a n00b i wasn't realy that bad, i'd played throught HL and read the manual so i knew the controls and had an idea on how gameplay went.



Ppl who were n00bs like me (ie not good but not dumb) aren't too bad, just frag em till the get good, but n00bs that haven't ever played HL and plunge say wheres the buy key how do i move or those with no skill what so ever and are somehow unable to get skill bug me.



Another thing that bothers me more that cheaters (if i see one who can actuly use a cheat enough to make a dif i switch servers though it does tick me off) are cheat accusations, the whole community is becoming paroniond. I usualy don't yell cheater unless they do something obvious and then it's only a suggestion that they may be having a bit too much luck (and i'm good at knowing norm luck and not norm luck, the last couple servers i played with cs guard on it caught all the ppl i thought were cheaters).



Part of this may be the fact that one of my friends IS and ub3r h34vy l337 player. He can own with a wide variety of guns at all ranges will have about 15 frags by the time he dies once and on top of that he doesn't cheat. If he did I'd be very shocked because he uses my computer for most of his ownage.



To sum this up for those to lazy to read my post. n00bs that are just new to the game are fine dumb n00bs tick me off cheaters while bad aren't as bad as ppl who accuse the skillful of using cheats and my friend can own a whole team of u with a usp.

I agree with the central theme of all of these comments, and that is that there seems to be a lot of peeps on public servers that are mean and rude and highly annoying. It wasn't always this way. I've been playing CS for a long time, I don't remember exactly which beta version it was, but you could run guns and activate doors as a ghost (those of you who were around know what I'm talking about...oh the memories). But it was during this time of trying to learn how to buy weapons and the fact that there weren't any stimpacks laying around to pick up that we all helped each other learn the game. I don't ever remember being insulted because I didn't know that I was supposed to buy my weapons and not run around looking for ammo to pick up.



I have a theory on cheaters, and I must say it was triggered by this post from retailSUX

I blame the console community for bring this plague of cheating to the online world. I have a young cousin with a Play Station, or something like that, and the first thing he does when he gets a new game is to go to the software's own internet site to get cheats so he can finish it. He doesn't even want to have the satisfaction of knowing that he defeated the game the way the authors intended. Now we have this generation of noobs who, when they can't beat the veterans, lose their patience and go out to get cheats.



So what do we do about it? I don't know, but this thread is supposed to be about the state of play not about what to do about cheating, so I guess I'll shut up now.



That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
