CS: CZ Delayed

I usually don't whinge about release dates and the like -- I'm all for getting something out when it's done, and not a minute earlier. If Gearbox has issues with the current state of development, there's nothing anyone can do about that, and our lives aren't going to dramatically change because CZ has been pushed back again. Still, I don't see CZ doing that well with such a late release. I hate to speculate on the life cycle of Counter-Strike, but it does seem as if it's running on fumes as of late (of course, that's been said by many people time and again), and interest in CZ may well have waned quite a bit in eight months' time.



Counter-Strike's continued popularity can almost certainly be attributed to the constant slew of updates, even post-retail. Nearly a year of non-growth may well be enough this time to dampen the community's enthusiasm for good.



The problem any outside developer is sure to have in developing anything for Counter-Strike is the fact that the community is always happy to criticise. Get it out too quickly and they'll be wanting the heads of Gearbox and Valve for releasing a sub-standard product. Postpone the release and they'll be ranting and raving until it finally is released, then they'll complain about how much it sucks for a few weeks -- while continuing to play it, for some cryptic reason. However, I'm still not sure how the community's gonna swallow the year of dead air between 1.5 and 1.6, unless Valve suddenly decides to pull a rabbit out of their hats and give us something to chew on until the CZ update gets here.

Ugh, early 2003. I'll still be buying the tons of games I couldn't afford at the holidays(well all the games that are released starting at the end of august) and zelda is coming out at that time.

I believe CS:CZ has entered the same basket as TF2. Personally, I show no sorrow. Valve needs to make something thats NEW and UP TO DATE. I understand that Gearbox is behind most of the work, but COME ON, the quake 2 engine can not stand up to large areas like Wolfenstein, and Valve is too worried about "anti-cheats" to make any real progress on anything. You CAN NOT stop every cheat, but you CAN make a new game. After 3 years of CS and 4 years of the same old game, its time to move on. We all know, deep down, that game companies should be making games, not creating one game that ends up being very good (props) and continually update and re-form and update and change and advance the anti-cheat software. Want to get rid of hackers off CS? then make a new game, they'll flock to that. The next patch better have the quake 3 engine :)



And for another topic, the only thing that can be completely labeled "realistic" about CS at all are the weapons, I might add.



I'm not a bad guy...I just figure the "other side" needs a representative.

Some people say that we should just wait and be patient for the game, and that it will all pay off when they release a PERFECT game. Well, I don't understand why they can't do BOTH at the same time? Why can't they release a perfect game ON TIME???!!!! What's the point of giving a release date then?

Frankly, games like NOLF2 and Splinter Cell could blow away an oldie like CS with their advanced AI and graphics, but no game has the fan base and community of CS. If you took off the chat mode and turned on "fadetoblack," the community would vanish. I belive deeply that this s the whole reason we play. Its an easy, simple game that allows us to talk and converse in between rounds. Fast-paced games like Quake and slow, concentrating games like Ghost Recon cant do that. But, again, unless I'm playing with friends, the only conversation I get is like this:



Player: Twizted hax

Me: ...

Player: You couldnt have possibly seen me

Me (possibility/combination of 3 responses, including: "I saw your gun," "I heard you," and "this is a team game, after chekcing my radar for my teams placement, I watched as one of my teamates got shot and turned to face the fire (you) and then died, as well, the blip on my radar dissapeared, thereby you gave away your place"

Player: Well I'm admin and this is a NO CHEATING [and low-self-esteem only] server and I'm going to kick you"



Thats it these days...people have such low self esteem when they play they think anyone better than them MUST be cheating...thats why I have only the utmost respct for people that run sites like this, or are really good as well.



Thats it for my blab while I finish downloading GTA3, and frankly, I expect to download CZ too, as you wont find me buying it.

This was written as I was writing my last post...I fully agree

ITs probbaly delayed because their finding they have to give allt he models 3 fingers instead of 5 to save memory due to the old engine :)
