    article: an aging game

Is Counter-Strike simply getting too old? Resident ranter Gorktic has asked this question in his latest article: An Aging Game. Here's a tidbit:
That's right, you know times have changed. We no longer have any huge bugs or glitches to face. No need to worry about whether the player you see across the map is on your team or not. There's no complaining about lack of funds for a losing team. You're thinking, "Great! All is well now." That is not the case, however, as now there is problem that even Gooseman and Gearbox might not be able to solve. That problem being time.

      Hence the word "accidently".

Nice job Mr. Gorktic. I completely agree. CS is a tidbit old for us. To me, clans/communities are what're keepin my addiction to it alive. Nothin beats goin into a server and being greeted by friends of yours that come in quite often. The thing that makes CS so old to some people is lack of friendship within the game. Instead of a "nice shot", people now say "BULLSHIT WALLHACKER!". See what I mean?

        Good article.

I think a big part of CS starting to become old is the large amounts of cheaters. You never used to have to worry about others cheating, but as soon as the newer cheats came out the game lost a big piece of itself. You don't know if someone is cheating or if they are just plain good. And for the people that are just plain good I'm sure they are tired of being called cheaters and not being trusted wherever they are. The only reason I still play CS is because of the people I play with. I play on the same server with the same people all the time. If I just roamed servers, I'm sure I would've quit, or not play as much as I do.

Blah! I realized that CS was getting tiring when the well-known "AWP Kills" were being taken as murder to some people. We gotta put CS in proportion: It's a video game. If you don't like a part of it, don't play it. Cheating is a part of gaming - complaining about it makes you sore loser. I understand witout updates, CS would be over-run with cheaters, but where's the fun? Proportion: CS + fun = first two weeks of version release.

Im looking forward to the condition zero upgrade not as much for single player but more for the high def pack(66% more polygons) all the new maps, and the new gear. Coop will be fun. In Ghost Recon coop was the best part of the game. CS coop isn't going to beat team play but I'm sure it will be fun and different. I could see how for some of you that it is becoming dull but more and more people get into it every year. I originaly was in a rs clan then we moved into gr but when I lost cable(damn @home!) I decided I wanted to start a clan in a game that would be the most fun and clan freindly. And I turned to cs because that is where I have the most fun... This game is still in its prime. One of the most fun games out there still.

Cheating is not part of the game...If it was part of the game then they would have programmed it into the game...But they didn't so why you sayin that cheating is part of the game? Complaining about cheaters is perfectly alright as long as they dont take it too far. Anyone who thinks cheating is alright in CS is just as bad as a cheater.

i actually know exactly what you mean. i have that feeling pretty much with every game i buy or play. like B&W. awesome game (OT)

but after a while... guess what i go back to CS. because with cs it is the exact opposite way. i just can't get loose from it. after my clan broke because of cheaters i wanted to quit playing cs... but i couldn't it's like smoking. you just can't stop (i'm a nonsmoker by the way). so although i can understand your point i just disagree. this game is really special. i sometimes do get boring but after 1 hour my fingers start itching and i join the next server.

it'll take a loooooooooong time even after CZ release to see cs becoming unpopular.

Does CS really need that much change besides anti-cheat software? What i see is that most players are happy how CS is set up now, besides the cheating. I really dont think we need that much change once u get use to a new version another one comes out and messes up your game play. This is what i will predict will happen with 1.4 with the jumping and what not. I believe thats why Valve has choosen not to make big changes for every new version, just tweaks and what not.

Although cheating isn't programmed into the game but it really is a part of it now, at least until 1.4. Unless you can do something about it or prove it completely unquestionably then I don't think poeple should be so quick to cry foul.

I played on a clan server for a long while, every time I kept up with or did better than their players (most of the time, not a very good clan) they accused me of cheating or using exploits. I stopped playing on this server obviously, i have friends on other servers now, but now i cringe every time i score a headshot - you just know someone wearing the *dead* tag is cursing you for wallhacking or something, and if the admin takes their side...

Yes I know how you feel... I was playing with a myg0t clan member (I'm not in there clan just happend to be on same server) and he said I was cheating and everyone believed him.....I hated it... So everytime I see a wall hacker ( I watch them alot to make sure) I ban them after asking them why there hacking... Most of the time there is no response so I ban them since they hacking... Like running around with an awp and getting headshots while RUNNING lol

I will continue to play Counter-Strike as long as it is fun for me. I won't stop playing becasue it doesn't have good graphics. People are going to get sick of playing CS, but some people aren't. So long as the game remains fun, I will play CS.
