I think getting rid of the bunny hopping will make players want to start acting like teams. Without bunny hopping people like me (not to brag) can kill almost the whole team with a deagle from bunny hopping. It will influence team play and enhance the game itself.

    Enough said
HA that is a joke!! Same people will play the same way they always did.

I don't really jump around much so I guess I don't really care that much. There are some places in maps where one good jump can get you from one place to another a little safer. Or sometimes jumping around a corner when you hear someone coming can surprise them a bit more etc. etc. But, they are saying that succesive jumps are what really slow you down so I guess it won't affect me that much.

I just hate to see them change something that is so hugely successful. I have played most of the online FPS's ever since I first played DOOM across modems with my friends and CS was the first game where I really felt the developers had gotten the movement physics perfect. And in fact, this is what had gotten me hooked more than anything else. However , I will of course give it a chance and I will probably adapt to it.

As for possibly paying to play? Forget that! I will move to Medal of Honor. Can hardly jump at all in that game .

Well anyway there is nothing we can do about it .

well once they see a made a mistake that lowers the popularity of CS, they will change it back in like 1.5 if they actaully go thru changing the jump. I got an idea for 1.5 or 1.4 if its not late enuff, how about u take out all guns and knife and everyone can just look at eachother, sounds like a blast, just like this tired jumping bullshit.

hmm..... from my point of view i think that what valve should do is to put an option to servers where they can choose what they want like if the server likes to have the jump implemantation then so be it and others no.. coz it will also be quite unrelistic if you jump twice and hear panting sounds i'm sure if you are wearing a kevhelm armour and holda mp5 you can jump up and down for about 10-15 times then pant right? and i dont understand what slow pause ? telling me that every jump you are like gonna fall down or something issit? trying to keep your balance? that sux!! i really think valve should do something about it
          kevLAR you idiot

I jump up and down alot, its just my style, why change it? no one is cheating or doing anything wrong, u r wasting your time on this, but yet there is like tons of people out there shooting thru walls, how about u fix the aimbots and wallhacks first, then do something about jumping. 90% of the people dont want u to change it, so why piss them off ?
i agree, instead of stopping bunnyhopping how about working on aimbots and wallhacks? I mean bunnyhopping is lame, BUT YOU HAVE to spend like 30 hours learn how to. While cheating only takes about 2 mins, 1 min to download and 1 min to install. Fix the things that cause the most problems first, then work on the other little annoying bugs.

I just wish that Valve will just leave cs alone, fix the current hacking problems and the bugs only. Leave cs as it is..I mean when 1.3 came out it sucked like shit. The voice lagged like hell and even now hardly anyone uses it. It's just added a annoying laggy feature. Cs is fine as it is, just get rid of the hacks. I really dislike the idea of slower jumping since alot of ppl use jump to dodge bullet during a gunbattle.

Are the jumping-physics REALLY that integral to CS game play?

I jump to avoid snipers (but only BAD ones miss me), I jump to surprise opponents (and get a better shot at their heads), and sometimes I even jump to scratch my ass because my arms are too short! But, I really don't play CS because of the jumping-physics.

I play for the cool guns, team play, porno color sprays, designer camouflage pants, personal glory, and other crap. <wink>

How many people quit because they removed the zoom on the M4 Colt?

Not many I'd think. If this jumping change is truely awful, won't someone mention something during this semi-public beta test? Isn't that the whole point?

Worst case scenario, this modification will INDEED be bollocks and they'll just remove it like all the other lame CS ideas. (River-dancing, visible ghosts, or ES escape maps anyone?)

I'm just excited about the new features. Jumping be damned!

Ok, being a beta 1.4 tester, I thought I would clear a couple things up. First an foremost is the fact that 1.4 is no where near done. There are alot of features that will be in 1.4 that are currently not in the latest build, so things can and will change. Now to address some of the issues I have seen brought up.

                  1. Jumping Changes - This obviously is cause alot of commotion, and the second I went of the current features of 1.4, I knew it would. Now since I have actually played 1.4, let me comment on what it is like. It was wierd. Definately. I never realized how much I jump in place during freeze time until now, and since I have been playing CS for quite some time, I will be frank, the jumping system is different. But on that note, it by no means alters the face os CS as some seem to be freaking out about. I have been playing the beta for about 4 days now, and I am already used to it. But it was definately odd the first day I played. You get over it though, because it really doesn't alter gameplay all that much. Everything does look more realistic w/o people bouncing up and down everywhere. Also, don't think of it as a stamina system, but as your player mearly gaining his balance. Its not like DoD where you can't jump anymore, it just slows you down after a jump. It's really not that huge of a gameplay change, and you get used to it pretty quick. Also, most people do not like bunny hoppers, so you people who are saying stuff like "90% of CS players dont want this feature," you haven't played it, you really don't know what you are talking about, so don't quote made up stats. I don't mean to offend anyone or anything, but until you have played it, you really can't say much on it. Most people seem to be confused on just what it does in the first place. But the bottom line is: Yes it's different, but it makes the game more enjoyable, it isnt a gameplay shattering feature, and its pretty easy to get used to, unless of course you are completely dependant on jumping, in which case I recommend you play Quake.

                  2. Cheating - ALot of people seem to be bashing on the jumping system, and saying, why don't you guys just work on cheating. Again, since you haven't played, you shoudln't comment on this. Valve is combating cheating, and if the Steam system turns out 1/4 as good as the design says, then it will be incredibly effective. Liek someone stated, Steam is very server side, and a large majority of the CS files are kept server side (Come to think about it, I think the only things that are used from your CS is the media i.e. models, sounds, etc). The rest of the files are downloaded to what is called your Steam Cache, all the dll's, exes and game data is all downloaded the first time you boot up CS Steam and put in your cache. If you modify any of these files, the server will detect it, and download the offical files onto your computer, overrighting the changed ones, thus making editing of them impossible. There is also a complte anti-cheat system in place, though it still has yet to be incorperated into the servers yet, and has some more features to go as I understand it. So to answer the cheating question, Valve is doing 10x more then every other anti-cheat system out there and the system is largely server side, so the only real way to hack it would be if you ran a hacked server.

                  3. What Steam is - First, it is a very well layed out game launcher, which automatically updates any MODs and HL itself the second an update becomes availible, as well as an anti-cheat system. And its a very nice GUI for selecting what MOD to launch, etc. It is going to be getting even more features later on in the beta stage and for the final build.

                  4. ALot of the other features people have been talking about, like bodies staying are very cool, but the new observer modes are even cooler. When you die, you see yourself die, and the camrera locks onto the guy who kiled you. This lets you see a failr dramatic death, plus it will instantly tell you from where you got shot. Not only does this look cool, but it helps the thwart wallhackers, as you will be able to see the player who killed you the instant you die, making wallhackers incredibly obvious. As for aimbot, there is the first person observer mode, which not only makes it apparent if one is using a aimbot, but a wallhack as well. At the same time, both of these feature are very cool as a player to watch, along with comabting cheating. And the map mode (Which lets you hover over a 2d map) is very cool as well, and will be great for clan matches.

feanor69, you hit it right on the nail, the point of the beta is to raise any issies, I promise I wont sit quite if they add something that destroyes CS, but as of yet, they havent, it has just gotten alot better.

                      - Stamina - needs work. Pass on their method.

                      - Armor and weapon outfitting method - sweet. I tihnk nobody can complain about Kevlar that actually stops shotguns and small arms fire - that's realism.
That's crap. Kevlar in real life doesn't stop shotguns, and it shouldnt in CS either. Do you even know how Kevlar works? It stops the bullets, but the kinetic energy of the bullet is about like getting hit with a large hammer. FA shotguns are EXTREMELY underpowered. In real life even if you have tons of kevlar on you would still die, even if the buckshot doesnt get through the kevlar, because the kinetic energy is equivilant to GETTIN HIT BY A FREAKIN TRUCK.

True to life, Kevlar should stop SMG's (Gradually decreasing in strength as it rips) and most Assault rifles should just directly penetrate it. AK-47 especially. This is the reason behind the whole "stop when you get hit" technique that they've implemented, that while Kevlar is supposed to stop the bullet it attempts to spread the kinetic energy around the vest, though mostly in vain.

As for the whole Jumpin/stamina thing? It's all subjective.. some people can tote around 90 pounds of Kevlar and be ok, some can't handle 10. So don't even play that realism factor because it's not gonna ever be real. Anyway, why the big commotion over a system YOU'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN IN ACTION YET? For all you guys know, it could allow multiple jumps and then start effecting you. Currently all you know is the anecdote of one beta tester. This is why they have beta testers, to test out the new system. They may decide it's crap and revamp it. But dont bitch and moan about something that you've never even had a second of experience with yet.

I have played CS since beta 6.0. Pretty non-stop since then too. I took a break when v1.3 came out though. Just some background info.

Counter-Strike has always been a game of luck with realistic models. The makers of CS in my mind have always been trying to obtain realism with an enjoyable game play. Where the game was at v1.1 I had no complaints about. When v1.3 came out it changed the game play to more realism than luck and fun. This I did not like.

So to wrap it up in one sentance:

CS was a gambling environment which addicted many HL players including me without any real reason besides the gambling obession and they are more and more obtaining what the makers of CS has set out for while killing the one thing that made people play CS.

That is my take on it. And stamina I don't mind all that much as long as there is a lot like in Firearms. However DOD is pushing it and I know lots of people who complain about it.

Oh, and one more thing. I am that jumping fool with the mp5 who gets mad headshots wile n00bs call me a bunny hopper. I like my jumping...

Yea, I have to agree with you Yuurie, you guys really should wait to play it before you get all worked up, even the info I gave form my playing 1.4 can be obsolete by tomorrow, the reason I, and the rest of the beta testers are testing is to give feedback. Like I said above, if they add something that just kills the CS game, we will be damned if we are going to site quite. As for how the system works as of now, it comes into effect the first time you jump. Actually, I shouldnt say jump, as it comes into effect when you land from a certain distance. The greater the distance the more recovery time. Also upon the first jump, the effect isnt THAT much, but if oyu keep jumping or landing from a certain distance, the effect gets bigger and bigger.
