    Disk2 is right.

Im was being totally retarted and was thinking that ogc and joolz were the opengl wallhacks. I edited to remove the wallhack stuff from the news.

    Thanks, Disk2.

Hate to point it out but OGC 2.5 works fine. Even if the server is running HLGuard it still gives cheaters that crucial 1-2 seconds before someone pops out from behind a box thus letting the cheater take aim before the honest player even sees him/her.

I think the only true way to solidly beat the cheats is to enforce a hard ban, like 2-5 weeks--right after updating the VAC to catch all the current cheats. Scaring people is the only true way...

Of course, how many of us have 2 or more wonids?

Well I think VALVe's thinking is that no one would be using that version of OGC. Personally I think that unless there is some technical problem related to detecting that particular version, it should be detected by the VAC. But hey, I don't make these decisions. Maybe they consider it unnecessary use of bandwidth...seems worth it to add detection though.

As for the 2-5 week ban, I'm sure it will eventually reach that, probably longer...maybe even lifetime. But until all the kinks are worked out, don't expect a long-term ban. A 24-hour ban is fine for now...It's long enough to be a bit annoying and short enough not to be. And yes, I love to contradict myself. Maybe VALVe could delay announcing the release of the new VAC version 12 hours or so. That way the cheaters would play, get banned, and the rest of us could play in peace. Sure the little kids in myg0t could find out if a new version is out by running HLDS, but CS-Nation has many, many visitors...more than myg0t has. It would take time to spread the word.

        And Mr. Lugosi, np bud

Wow, that was a disappointment. You got me all excited about there being no more wallhacking, only to let us know it was an error in your literacy. D=

I think openGL hacks are separate from the HOOK methods used by OGC. What they need to do the most is 'unhook' the code used to auto aim! If possible...

After so many years of hearing nothing but people bitching about Valve it's great to see all the work they're doing to upkeep their software. Kudos Valve, you're going above and beyond. (Please keep it up.)

Well it can be a combination of the two. For example, a hacked OpenGL DLL combined with a hook that activates the wallhack and provides auto-aim. They are working on detecting both from what I see...Just look at HLirc as an example :)

This is the second time you've made this mistake Lugosi! Good job keeping us up to date, but be sure to report just what you know and no assumptions. I'm sure when the wallhack blocker takes effect they'll send out a subtle notice that says, "The wallhack blocker has taken effect." :)

Anyway keep up the good work!

Maybe VALVe should stop announcing when they update VAC, then the cheaters would be less likely to know if the cheat they were about to download was VAC proof or not. I'm sure people would figure it out, but it would take more time than simply looking on a website.

I personally watched three known cheaters get the "disconnected from a secure server" message ive been trying to keep it cheat free for some time even has the new hl-guard 1.20. but still they persisted to play there. To know there gone for 24 hours give me a warm fuzzy feeling, perhaps now we can have tourneys worth more money and finally the best players will stand out.

PS I also saw when the vac updated and the files being downloaded a feature i like and hope they keep.
