Does this mean we get Part II of this article afterall? :) I'll be looking forward to that, definitely.

As far as the UAE guys posting, a few of you did so in a mature way, a few did not. For those that did, thanks for offering your perspectives on the subject, as it adds even more interest to the subject. To those who just flamed EjeKt and accused him of racism... well, unfortunately it's obvious that in the UAE, just like here in the States, there are plenty of idiots to tarnish the apparence of those who are more respectable. I'd say EjeKt has come across as one of the least racist people I've seen writing about another culture.

So anyway you look at it, I still liked the article, even if it's in a new perspective now. Perhaps we'll see some of you rich boys from the UAE in future tournaments, eh?

Have fun all, and EjeKt, make sure you hold your own in Dubai, hehe. :)

all i have to say is Watch out for a U.A.E team @ WCG2003 !

And NightHawk, it wasnt really the CS part of what he said that ticked people off ( although it made us look bad ) it was the unrelated stuff that caused the tension.

              Ejekt,

When u say "I knew how much money I had" why will u buy a desert eagle with no armor at the start of the round.

You can't say they had more money that you, it is not true just to

try to cover up for your self because you said " the beginning of the round to get $16000 "

SuKa: The HalfLife engine has some cheats implemented, which allow you in Counterstrike to get $16000 by typing a single command in the console ... On most servers this is server sided disabled by "sv_cheats 0" ....

On the article: It was interesting to read, although many of your statements seem to be a sketchy. But i don't want to write too much about that, because many others did before me, and because I see that you changed your opinion in one or the other point ... I admire that

But: I think you have to differentiate between public fun gaming and "professional" clan gaming. When I'm playing on a public server here in Germany I'm on top of the score in no time, but I wouldn't say that I'm some kind of highskiller :) In the clan scene I'm maybe top average, but that's it. That is, because all the more experienced gamers consider public server as boring, the play friendly wars with other guys on private servers. If you play on a public it's not because you want to have great teamplay and tactics, it's more like deathmatch ...

And on the fact that guys in "your" internet cafe teamed up although they were in different teams, you see that for those guys the game is just fun playing together ...

Nighthawk: There are idiots all over the world, I don't think it has something to do with nationality. There maybe some dumb-asses in the UAE, but they are also here in Germany, they are in France or in the USA. (Yes, i know that you didn't say all the Emiratis are idiots :) And that is the conclusion: You cannot judge a country or its inhabitants by observing them play a game! It is completely ridiculous to say a good CS player is a good soldier, that's what all the media say when some ill-brained youth goes on killing spree, they say that this youth trained killing people by playing a game! I am sorry but in my opinion the average cs player is too much a nerd (as I am) to be a good soldier

If I'm wrong: Beware, Scandinavia is gonna take over the world hehe!

P.S. @ the guy rocking german servers with a ping of 300: Ever tried to shoot someone lagging around the map?

                  hey EjeKt...

First of all, this site is made to discuss matters on CS, not to discuss political issues and the population of the UAE.

Secondly, as u said 70 percent of the population here are non-locals, and the other 30 are locals.. so of course we would need people working for us and help us in our work... and btw we pay for those people that means that they work they're not just "slaves" we order them whenever we want to...

what do u expect of one of the richest countries in the world ?? u expect their citizins to work as low-clas workers ?? i know there is nothing wrong about this, but in every country u have to have a local citizen as the top manager .... it is only a game and u started talking about our culture

U cant judge that cs players are noobs , u just played in a games network in AL Ain with poeple that started playin cs since 3 month and they just play for fun , they just learned how to play cs , and u r saying that all UAE players r noobs , campers , and dont have any idea how to play.

For example if i visited Sweden and i played in the worst network games , full of noobs , so can i say that Sweden players r all rookies . . . . . you critisized some of the arabs for using arrows, well SK|Potti one of the best in the world plays with arrows, what do u have to say about that? so were waiting for u = )

                    Sounds like CS at home.

Mouth is full of shit. It's a rare occasion that something on this site gets near unanimous praise and he's always there with the picket line spouting out why everyone shouldn't post praise while he posts absolutely nothing indicative of his opinion. p!ge0n, you're a tool. Congrats.
                          A) Sound it out. The point of my gripe is not with people posting praise, but with people posting superfluous praise. Easier to overlook that when you have your own ideas about what you want my posts to be, isn't it? Why in the hell would i want them to give more on WHY they liked it if i didn't want them to post any praise at all?

                          B) I most certainly did give my opinion on it.
First of all, let's assume that my opinions on comments are more important than mouths'. As a webmaster I have to deal with hundreds of you comment whores who rarely mumble something positive. Let the floodgates open when you have a positive statement and shut your silly mouth when you're Negative Billy, because personally a hell of a lot of people put in a lot of work and people like mouth, who seems to be judging what positive statements are valuable to EjeKt and other people who have worked for the site at various times, have absolutely no idea what anyone who actually puts forth effort prefers.
Oh come on. Have your standards for the posters slipped this much? Do you NOT find it the slightest bit lame that every article that looks like it went through a spell-checker gets called "the best article i've ever read"? Something people finally like, and the best that most of them can manage is some monosyllabic "Yay! Mongo likes!"? I don't have to put myself in the position of "deciding what statements are valuable to him" to see that most of them are bullshit. On my planet, walking up to someone, quickly saying "Heyhiniceone", and immediately disappearing is NOT considered a compliment. Maybe it's different on yours.
Mouth is simply a very eloquent troll; his opinions on what matters to someone else are wrong.
Watch now, as Pot has a touching reunion with his long-lost acquaintance Kettle.
He's trying to lure everyone into stop posting positive feedback unless it contains a well-presented thesis statement. Jesus, who cares. I know why the article is good, I don't need to be told.
I'll keep that in mind the next time someone decides to crap out a 1 line complaint. After all, they know why something is bad. They don't need to be told. It's not like conversation is supposed to happen here or anything.
EjeKt and everyone else who actually presents something to the community likes to hear the "good job"s or whatever. It is not an insult that they enjoy our work and don't waste time explaining why.
Now who's deciding what's valuable to Ejekt? Eh, Pot?

It goes like this: "GREATEST ARTICAL EVAR" posts take jack shit for effort. Ergo, those people just crapped out something, yet they think it's deserving of high praise. Are we seeing the incongruity here yet, spanky?
Oh yeah mouth, this site gets such unadulterated praise from a CS community full of angry teenagers. Oh wait it doesn't work that way, since most of the time people just write "lol sux" or, for something like the mailbag, "AHAHA BETTER LAST WEEK."
Right. But "lol nice" or "AHAHA BETTER THIS WEEK" are somehow more constructive and insightful? Hogshit.
In conclusion, mouth, the only person that all these positive opinions offend are you. And you did jack shit to earn of them, so please mind your own business and stop pestering everyone who has something positive to say. Jesus.
I'm sorry. Everyone, continue giving the biggest throw-away "compliments" possible.

Nice article. I just wanted to say some things. I live and play cs here in Brazil and I think we are not at all seen as part of the axis of terror/evil by Baby Bush and still most people here seen to love playing as Ts. As I see it it's mainly because of three things: 1-The AK rocks!!! I play as ct most of the time, but all I want is to find myself an AK or kill someone(in the game)for one. 2- At least in Brazil, and in some servers I played THE BLOODY CTS SUCK HARD!! They usually rush without a strategy, hence the high killing rates of the ts here. 3- It's ALWAYS nice to break the rules, otherwise you wouldn't be shooting people in the head in a game just for the sake of it. So, that being said, I found your little comment on their selection of tems a bit prejudiced, and not at all helpful when widespread ignorance and intolerance are about to start another war.

LET'S KEEP ON FRAGGING LIKE MANIACS!!!! on the screen. Peace and blood.

I don't remember saying anything about slave-labor, dude ... but the class relations in the Gulf region are not simply a historical inevitability ... "of course we would need people working for us"??? Not with your unemployment rates you don't! You read the papers -- Emiratization ... Omanization ... Saudiization ... the governments of the region are desperately trying to persuade your demographic to enter the workforce as something other than a "mudir" (boss). But the youth aren't biting, are they?

There are plenty of different situations that could have emerged from the discovery of petroleum, and I think the current situation -- one in which citizens sponsor legions of workers -- represents a series of *choices* enacted by the people of UAE and their leadership. Venezuela has oil, it's much different. Sao Tome has oil, it's much different. Nigeria has oil ... where's the vast foreign underclass there (and where the hell is all the money?) I'm not trying to imply there's anything wrong with the way UAE or the other Gulf nations have gone about organizing their labor force, but I am trying to explain the differences between there and here to an audience that, for the most part, couldn't find your country on a map if their life depended upon it.

Well, I expect there to be significant differences in the practical, everyday activities of the citizens when compared to a nation where many of the youth work at the 7-11, deliver pizzas, trim other people's shrubs, file pointless documents in large filing cabinets, cook genetically engineered meat in large vats of oil, and all the other things that the citizens of the U.S. end up doing to drive this capitalist machine. I mean, think about it ESSA3 ... unlike the Emiratis, I'll bet most of teenagers and young adults here in the U.S. spend a better part of the day getting bossed around. I expect those differences to percolate into the culture and ideology of those regions, so that with the proper evidence (which I seemingly don't have ... see comment #104), one could discuss those differences. And it's not "only a game" ... it's a window to cultural differences, one that receives little attention in academia, and it's an opportunity to observe how people really act, rather than how they say they act.

As I've noted, I recognize the issues concerning my poor sample. Nonetheless, I haven't given up on my hypothesis -- that players in the U.S. are more cooperative than players in the Gulf region. Is that a good thing? Well, maybe for playing counterstrike, yeah ... and maybe that same cooperativeness is what's allowed the citizens of the U.S. to build this gigantic capitalist juggernaut that will seemingly denude the planet of vegetation, suck the remaining oil from the earth (thanks UAE! we love you!), push the marginalized to the brink of starvation, and bomb the uncooperative.

One thing is for certain: you've read too much patriotism into my article.
