Ok i live in the emirates and i goto a american school. i ve asked alot of people in my shcool (the majority americans) about what they think about the u.a.e and they think its great, but you only judged the u.a.e by visiting a isolated village thinking its a land of sheep, camels, and afghani taxi drivers. in fact visitors shouldn't make comments on any country if they haven't been there for something more than a year. plus you think we should respond to you politely when you wrote an article that insulted a place we like, but i don't think you'd respond politely if we insulted a place you liked or if we insulted america.
P.S NO ONE IN THE U.A.E AGREES WITH YOU AT ALL AND THEY THIN YOUR AN IDIOT, THATS INCLUDING THE AMERICANS IN THE U.A.EComment

Hey, I can even write down many "interesting" articles about the "great(or 'gay' as you guys frequently speak in CS)" U.S. after few steps out from an airport in the states. Ha....Comment

I live in the UAE in Abu Dhabi and i agree with ur assumption of AL AIN being like that but come to Abu Dhabi next time....the players are many many many many more times better than the players of al ain because most of them have played online and know the need for tactics and communication.
i have played at many cafes around UAE but abu dhabi is still one of the best places to fight against Good CS players... Good article but if it were used anywhere else in the UAE for example if you were talkin about Dubai or abu dhabi then it would be seriously mistaken. Most "Emaratis" as you call them are from IRan and Syria etc etc because not many Local arabs play CS. NExt time you are in UAE give me a shout ill give you the real low down on CS in the UAE

Your essay brings the CS community to a next level of conversation and experience exchanges. The views and thoughts, mostly in the part of the saudi society, are very nice. Nevertheless, IMHO, I think that you got some misconceptions when you tried to make a viewpoint of the whole cs scenario of that country taking only a few cybercafés as examples.
Here in my city, Cuiabá, in Brazil, you will find tactically oriented players not depending only the LAN house you go, but depending of the time you go (best players here go to LAN houses after midnight).

ok so far so good.
well, that was a fantastic bit of writing, and a very pleasing change of pace for csnation and its visitors. as many have previously mentioned, the cultural (cs related and non-related) differences were quite interesting. when i first began playing cs i used the arrows, simply because it was what i was used to. i eventually (thankfully) got used to using WASD and i got my own config to minimize key scrambles. as for them sniping 24/7 thats REALLY interesting... nighthawk got it dead on with his bit about the tactical mindframe of the west, and the glorified "take em head on" mindframe of over there. great article for hte author, and great article to have on cs nation...
...it should totally be considered having him write for csnation more often...Comment

Ejekt, this article is great. The issue is very rarely addressed and kind of important. You should elaborate on this if you have the time or inclination. You should play CS in as many non-Western cultures that you find are playing it, interview the players, record their takes on the counter-terrorism context of CS, their opinions on the US's so-called "war on terrorism" and then contrast it with the same from Western cultures, especially the US (Israeli CS-players would also be very interesting). Maybe apply some Skinnerian Operant Conditioning theory to the data you record. Go crazy drawing inferences about cultures based on how they play CS, at least someone is thinking about it and applying a critical eye. CS is a transcendant interactive phenomenon and deserves serious scholarly attention to how it affects the people who play it. You sound too busy for all that but I wanted to provide some substantive feedback.
Memo to potential flamers:
Save it imbeciles. CSNation used to be littered with burned-out corpses from my outrageous, ridiculous flaming skillz but those days are over now.
