I got the mx500 and im very pleased with it, no more skipping and spinning when i play, plus the mouseware mouse5 myth is almost gone (stil have problems sometimes) with the new mouseware it can be set to disable the special features when playing so you can use all your buttons in games, i use mouse1-5 in CS with mouseware installed

search for "mouse buttons in games" on Logitechs support bot L.I.S.A on their site to read more

        Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0

        DPI: 400

        Logitech MX-300/500/700

        DPI: 800

        HZ (frames per second): 8000

So all you people saying "my ms mouse is MUCH better"... Well, it's quite much about taste, but in theory, Logitech mouses ARE better.
Rizzuh left out quite a few driver issues which concern the specs of the mice. If you're using Mouseware, along with extra buttons not functioning, there's also negative acceleration on the mouse (if you move very quickly it will slow down) and you really aren't getting the 800 dpi listed on it. You can modify your registry to disable the negative acceleration and change the dpi from 400 (what it's in using Mouseware) to 800. In 99% of situations, the better technology from Logitech over MS wont be noticable and the maximum tracking speeds for Logitechs and MS mice is so high that you'll never reach it.

For most users, you're better off just using default windows drivers with the mx500 and forgetting the superior technology because it's unnoticable anyways. The best reasons to buy one are the shape, weight and feet instead of extra dpi and hz. I used to own one but returned it because the shape was uncomfortable. I now have an Intelli Optical which I like more for the shape but I liked the weight and feet on the logitech more. Despite these, my biggest reason for returning the Logitech and getting a MS was the price. My Intellimouse Optical only cost 20$ from Best Buy while the mx500 is over 50$ at most places.
