How about durability? As compared to, say, the old 3-button Wingmen gaming mice or the 4-button MouseMan? I have the latter, and it's lived through about 5 years of constant use and typical LAN abuse. How does this one measure up?

It's just a mouse, sure, but thanks to the boomslang, it's a nice thing to know before buying.

Keyword here is KISS....Keep it simple stupid....I mean hey, if you put all those buttons on the darn things whats next?....Mice with joysticks and small TV sets, drink holders, faxes, cell phones and the ever popular self-propelled mouse......You don't even have to touch the mouse, it moves by thought......Now if thinking about that dosen't keep you up tonite, remember they do have self-learning mice...Yep, and there gona take over the World, knifing you in the chest while you sleep so they can take your money and pet hamster....
Yeah. People like you are how we ended up with those goddamned "no button" abortions for macs. In your case, a sentient mouse would be a good thing; maybe then you'd actually click on the fucking spell-check button. Then we could get a sentient keyboard to prevent you from abusing the period. Or to kill you. Flip a coin.

Really, we have an assload of keys for our non-mouse hands to use for a game, and that turns out to be pretty useful. What, exactly, is the big problem about balancing the load by slapping a few more buttons on the mouse in reasonable places, you fucking Luddites?

I had a dual optical (actually I use it for my notebook now). If you got the problems I had, with the mouse skipping sometimes, you'll like this new mouse. Overall it's lighter and much better designed. I'm not trying to sell you on the mouse but it really is much better than the dual optical (which I was not happy with).
I don't have any problems with it. Besides, I'm not spending another 50€ (yeah that's euros) on a mouse when my parents (yea I have parents) don't even want to buy me anything more expensive then a book for Xmas and don't even give me any allowance (yes that's $0 or £0 or 0€ or whatever 0) just because they hate Counterstrike.

Merry Christmas everybody (except me I guess)

I am sticking with my $10 ball mouse cause BOTH of the Microssoft Intellimouse Explorers I bought broke down, and one of them messed up my cs until i reformatted my hard drive. Maybe my 6-year-old Dell just doesn't like Microsoft....

            Razer Boomslang 2000

            DPI: 2000

            HZ (frames per second): 125
Your logic is an utter failure. The DPI is irrelevant because it uses a ball and not straight optics. You are losing accuracy by simply translating movement into the ball instead of viewing movement on its own.

Also if you read the review, and I'm sure no one here has, the MX500 is vastly superior to the Boomslang (which I used to own). And it doesn't cost $130.

mycatsboots, I don't think months existed back then. I know years didn't. Christmas was a pegan holiday that Christians hijacked in order to gain momentum. Easter, and specifically good Friday, are about Jesus being crucified.

Additionally, JackieChad neglects to mention that the optical mice interpret movement internally before sending the information to the computer. That means that a 6000 UPS (update per second) mouse will trace better, at least in theory, than a 4000 UPS one. The USB update speed does not limit the impact of UPS. I have an IntelliMouse with IntelliEye 1.0. It really does suck. I can't move quickly without massive skipping. My mouse uses the same optical technology as an Explorer 1.0. The Explorer 3.0's optics have the same DPI but much higher UPS. Anyone who has used both know that there is a world of difference between MS's v1 and v3 optics. Empirically, UPS does matter even when both mice already had more than 125 UPS. Alternatively, you'll probably buy an optical mouse when you Boomslang craps out like everyone else's.

Ok Rizzuh your wrong the boomslang does use optics to track the balls movement thus is far superior to the mx500. Remember the boomslang is not your typical ball mouse.

ok here is what i think is happening here:optical mouses track the mouse movement directly via the red laser, what boomslang does is it tracks the movement by mouseballs but internally, optics track the mouse balls movement, so in theory the boomslang has twice the chance of screwing up in its tracking

hey rizzuh, tech question... or whoever can answer this.

i have a microsoft intellmouse 3.0 currently, and for some reason, my right mouse button malfunctions. Like, when you zoom in with sniper rifle, and you right click again, sometimes nothing happens, like the zoom will stay the same. I sometimes have to click maybe 2 or 3 times for it to unzoom.

Actually, this is my THIRD Boomslang. I get about a year out of them with my constant hard use. I'd gladly buy another for the $60 that I paid for my current one. No other mouse has ever felt "right" to me.
