review: mx500

hmm i judt bought this mouse. its very smooth and great for games. im happy with it. its definitly better than any MS mouse or trackball out there

i have had this mouse since it first came out, in fact i liked it so much that i bought 2 of them, one for work and one for home.



I like everything about it but the drivers, I didnt like losing the buttons in cs, and sometime the middle button just wouldnt work at all in cs. in windows it was never a problem.



tech question- since now i am just using default windows drivers (which does indeed retain all functionality minus alt-tab button) does it only have 400 dpi and not the proclaim 800 dpi?



it feels like nothing has changed, and it must be inherint in the mouse itself. wish logitech would speak on the subject, cause their drivers are crap.

SolidVelvit brings up an extremely good point do you lose the 800dpi when useing windows default drivers.If you do the mx500 will be the same thing as the MSIE 3.0 mouse.

My current mouse is fine, i got a logitech dual opticle. It's ok but like rizzuh said, it some times miss reads information and my crosschair goes up in the sky. This happends rarly tho.

You son of a bitch that wasn't 13 pages long! Yeah I just use one of the older logitech laser mice with the 2 buttons and the scrollwheel and a nice metalic blue coating. Maybe its just that mouseman crap that misfires because the old logitech works perfectly you can move it pixel by pixel DDD

i think i'll stick to the old logitech their new one looks cool but mine hasn't broken from shit spilling on it yet.

Some technical information for you all:



The MX-300 is a "standard" mouse with mouse1, mouse2 and mwheel. Except for that, it also has that little "mini-alt-tab" extra button.



The MX-500 is an ergonomic mouse with mouse1, mouse2, mwheel, a n extra "scroll up" button and an extra "scroll down" button. It also has the "mini-alt-tab" extra button and two thumb-keys, for back and forward (in ie or windows explorer). The thumbkeys can be binded within cs as mouse4 and mouse5 when you don't have mouseware installed.



The MX-700 is the same mouse as the MX-500, except for that it's cordless. The mouse has a lithium battery which should last for a whole day of cs playing, and if/when you run out of power, it only takes 10 minutes to recharge, and it's full again. Very impressive, imho. Also, the mouse has improved cordless RF technology, not lagging at all. So the performance is exactly the same as with the MX-500. Though, the MX-700 contains a piece of metal to increase weight. This piece does not exist in the MX-500 (correct me if I'm wrong, at least mine doesn't have one... ), so the MX-700 weights a little bit more than the MX-500. I don't understand Logitech's idea for that, but the piece can be easily removed. Guides all over the net too, if you want to remove it and don't know how.



Well, then to the more important things, performance... Let me tell you once and for all, ALL MX-mouses have exactly the same optical technology. The only difference between MX-300 and MX-500 is that the MX-500 is ergonomic and has more buttons, and the only difference between MX-500 and MX-700 is that the MX-700 is cordless.



All the Logitech MX-mouses are equiped with a single optical sensor of 800 dpi, which is INCREDIBLE 8000 hz (fps). This means it can detect movements as small as 1/800 of an inch, and in 1/8000 of a sec. Impressive, huh?



Some of you, equiped with Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 mouses, might say "dude, my mouse is 6000 dpi, and your is 800! n00b!". Well, you're wrong! The 6000 when it comes to the MS 3.0 is hz (fps), NOT dpi. All Microsoft cordless mouses are equiped with 400 dpi sensors. The difference between the Microsoft Intellimouse and the Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 was the increasing of hz (fps) to 6000. I don't recall what the old value was, but it was a great increase in speed. Well, Logitech beats you.



Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0

DPI: 400

HZ (frames per second): 6000



Logitech MX-300/500/700

DPI: 800

HZ (frames per second): 8000



So all you people saying "my ms mouse is MUCH better"... Well, it's quite much about taste, but in theory, Logitech mouses ARE better.



And I'm not saying this because I own a MX-500,

I bought a MX-500 because I knew this.
