This isn't a mistake. HLirc hacks into Half-Life's memory. This type of program loading is common in trainers, and could easily be used to create a cheat for CS. This update eliminated another method of attack.
Half-Life, as an independent program, should have its own memory space. HLirc was a hack (a hack, not a cheat) and there is absolutely no reason for it not to be blocked. VALVe seems to be making a plug-in system or something, as described by Disk2; so we have to wait until then.
Detection/bans are a whole other issue. I'm better VALVe will reject all bans coming from HLirc installs.

Remember how in 1.3 you coudn't go into a server without seeing at least one cheater? I sure as fuck do. Now stop the bitching, Valve has updated Half-Life sicne it was released and when cheats threatened to turn people away from it they started fixing it. If you bought a bare bones computer and every other month I gave you a huge improvemnt on it for free would you bitch and moan? Something tells me most of you would.Comment

It doesn't, but it does modify some settings which cause it to be detected. It displays the symptoms of a hook without actually being a hook.
i thought hlirc doesnt hook onto hl.exe?
Edit:
cHic0!, it's not your fault for thinking HLirc is a hook. Many people have simply assumed it is a hook. I assure you it isn't.Added @ [time="1031269103"]WillHutch wrote..
When the plug-in system for Tracker is ready for the public I will certainly create a plug-in for Tracker that will allow for full IRC chat through Half-Life. The interface will be easier to use, more powerful, and most of all it won't be detected by the VAC
never used hlIRC but the idea seems pretty nice...thats a shame but its something that must be done to continue the war on cheaters....perhaps someday sweet programs like that will be available along side a cheat free CS....anytime soon...? lol....not likely.

hlirc = the win
disk2 = the win (for being mature about it)
Can't wait to be able to use it again.
I really liked the fact that you could use hlirc while waiting for a custom map to DL off the server, that way you wont be completely bored while downloading a map at 6k/sec :)Comment

you have to remember they don't speak for everyone. these folks want their free cake and to be able to eat it too.
It's amusing to see people so constantly unsatisfied. 2 years of cheat dominance in CS and VAC come out and blocks them pretty much as they are released.
The cheat issues is virtually resolved so you attack valve because their AC system temporarily knocks out a HL irc plugin.
ya OK.Comment

Mind informing us why?
HLGuard is not legal in CAL or UGS, the 2 most prestigious online leagues. Needless to say, that creates a bit of a problem, seeing as wallhacks are the biggest problem in leagues because they're much less obvious then those lovably easy to spot aimbots.
HLGuard isn't in the spellchecker.Comment
