From what I understand, you pay for the retail product, and that's all. I don't know much about Steam, but I'll say that when I used the beta versions, I thought it was absolutely horrible and stupid. Why in the hell would I want to download a program that would make me have to download components to play a game I can already play just fine?



Tracker.. I don't care. Maybe if I played public servers it would serve more of a purpose.

What matters is not the number of cheats that are detected but the number of cheaters. VAC was designed to prevent cheaters playing the game and so that's what we should judge it upon.



I'd guess VAC detects about 99% of all people who try to cheat, because they all try OGC and its variants. I wouldn't care if VAC detected 50% of hacks, or 10% or 1% - as long as 95%+ of people who try to cheat would fail.

That makes sense... and I couldn't agree more. :)



I think losing a few plugins (however nice they may be) is a relatively small price to pay for the success of VAC. Sure, it doesn't eliminate every single cheat, but I very rarely see cheaters anymore.

HLGuard is not legal in CAL or UGS, the 2 most prestigious online leagues. Needless to say, that creates a bit of a problem, seeing as wallhacks are the biggest problem in leagues because they're much less obvious then those lovably easy to spot aimbots.

well not like i didnt expect idiots thinking it was to take out hlirc it was to take out the hooking method. They said this about ogc light as well, any program that hooks a client .dll is a cheat, even if its just a chat program.

Hint: HLirc isn't a client.dll hook. It is detected for another reason.

You're confusing a random flame with an opinion based on your previous posts. Constructive criticism of VAC is fine, but wasting everyone's time with factless berating of their efforts is not.

This isn't a mistake. HLirc hacks into Half-Life's memory. This type of program loading is common in trainers, and could easily be used to create a cheat for CS. This update eliminated another method of attack.



Half-Life, as an independent program, should have its own memory space. HLirc was a hack (a hack, not a cheat) and there is absolutely no reason for it not to be blocked. VALVe seems to be making a plug-in system or something, as described by Disk2; so we have to wait until then.



Detection/bans are a whole other issue. I'm better VALVe will reject all bans coming from HLirc installs.

never used hlIRC but the idea seems pretty nice...thats a shame but its something that must be done to continue the war on cheaters....perhaps someday sweet programs like that will be available along side a cheat free CS....anytime soon...? lol....not likely.
