When I first started Steam I had to make my own user account in which I did and then I subscribed to all the newsletters (which I haven't received yet).
well this shows you how much the guy researched it because what he is refering to is the software subscriptions which is not a newsletter but which beta software you want to download so you can play. looked for his email to correct him on this didnt find one.

It took about 10 more tries to actually get connected to a server. This is happening to a lot of Steam users. Since Steam is still a beta and not to be released most of the servers are still very buggy so just keep trying and you will get a connection sooner or later. I was also surprised to see the limited amount of junk advertisements posted on Steam.
from what i was hearing most of those servers you see in steam that you cant connect to are either a) behind a firewall or b) non-dedicated server games given i havnt seen any difference between a lan non-dedicated and a internet one. some of it may be that steam is still buggy but they release beta software on a beta delivery platform. and i never expected advetisement not from valve atleat.

all in all valve learned its lesson to never underestimate the community

Closing Kazaa might have helped his download speed. Not a bad article, I didn't agree with most of it but it was at least interesting.

I never thought that it was leaked. Believed that they "Pulled" the release due to the high dermand and the servers were not capable of taking the demand.

The articles not bad although as people have said in previous posts it does seem as though he was just trying to have a pop at valve.

His last comment about getting on with TF2 probably highlights that he is not a reglar CS player.

All in all the beta wasn't managed as good as it was but I have found that since it has been released steam runs fine. The VGUI is very nice. New weps and aesthetic changes to some of maps look good.

Steam2.0 gets a thumbs up from myself.

Just for the record, it took me about 5 h (DSL) to get to the point where CS is launched. The first time I actually reached the CS main menue screen. It was in a 640x480 res so I entered the settings and changed that amongst the bindings. When I left the settings screen, the engine restarted (due changed resolution setting, I believe) and it crashed without any error message, it just closed. Since then, everytime I try to launch CS, the screen flashes white, then the main menue appears for a second and then it crashes again. I reinstalled steam about 3 times now (yes, I did delete the folders and registry keys manually) and spent another 3x5=15 h to download it, but it keeps on crashing. :*(

This is the sort of thing that you should be emailing to Valve, with times and system/OS setup. Thats what a beta test is. Be thankful you arent testing the whole game out; playing a game by throwing yourself at every available wall, with every available weapon, on every available resolution, with a mouse, with a joystick, with just the numeric keypad. Thats the life of a proper beta tester, and it sux.....

Remember Jeepathon2k? I remember falling through that map about six times the day beta 7.1 launched. It was still great fun though so of course I came back for more-the bugs were actually making it more fun somehow.

If all beta testing was as fun as that it'd be great. Sigh.

In your mind maybe it was leaked, but don't blame what you call a leak as the reason for STEAM being such a horrible launch. Valve themselves never once blamed it on anyone else leaking their product, which is all I'm trying to say. Don't blame the initial launch of steam 2.0 being shitty due to a leak... since even Valve hasnt blamed it on that. Blame them for not being fully prepared if anything.

you said it wasn't leaked, when in fact it was.

I never said anything about the leak causing steam to have a bad launch. Quit trying to put words into peoples mouth

i run my own little noob server and the only "real" cheater i have seen in game since VAC have been a single speed cheater.

on sniper maps though it's a different story: i have been told by several players that by running in software mode/low rez lets you see through walls on AWP-city. i have not tried this myself to see if it works. I suspect that the performance decrease you get in FPS running software mode makes it a disadvantage on regular maps with CQB. since the Sogamed article came out all the noobs run their sensitivity super low. low-sens+M4=head-shot. i had one of those guys on my server last night. other players wanted me to kick the "cheater" so watched him in 1st person. he was just walking and popping single/double shots at heads. the next round i just quietly out flanked him and mowed him down with MP5...reminds me of a witch hunt sometimes..

people have been playing CS for all most 3 years.

i am 32 and have been gaming longer than the average counter-strike player has been alive.

remember there is always someone better than you. if you admit that to yourself you will have more fun playing and might learn something from the "cheater" that just pwned you.

Tech nonce, what are you on about? I havent banned anyone from my server, which is why i am asking about better anticheat protection, so think before you open your mouth. Are you a server admin, or just teh amazingly talented player u claim to be. As a server admin, I see that plenty of people do cheat, as do the numerous sites devoted to that malefactorous practice testify.

There are at least 4-5 sites (In english) which are constantly updated on new haxs, which will get around various people. With the cs community as large as it is, even if we were to say 1% of people cheat, that isill, according to the 1.2 million players a day through gametiger,(previous comment stat) we are looking at 120 thousand cheats a day!

But im not here to play the stats fiddle. I simply think u, tech are being completely ignorant if you believe that noone cheats anymore.

Perhap the reason u think custom models are for n00bs is because Your aimbot wouldn twork with the custom models? ;P But no, they now do vector programming for custom models too. So in short, I disagree with you, Steam will help to reduce cheating further, even if you were right, a reduction would be better. (Except i see there are sites already claiming they have cheats for 1.6! And Steam cheats How strange that people go to all that effort, for 'hardly any cheats')

I often have extremely skilled players with much admin experience on my server, and even on their say so i dont instaban peeps. I would thank you NOT to say people like me are damging the community, If you had ever read my posts youd be aware that im a very community minded person, It is judgemental asholes such as your self, who think they know it all, who damage this community. With your atitude i find it hardly surprising you get kicked off servers, I wouldnt hesitate to send you packing. Oh gifted one!

And there are numerous VAC Proof cheats, I test em quite often, (ON MA OWN SEVRVER!) And that isnt even going into the damn tweakers, and so on. Im fully aware that there are better players than me, and esp lambert etc, ak blah blah are all dangers to fun gaming, end of story, DOnt get at me! get at the cheats, we should like, storm a chet site and cuss em or something. Grrr, feelin hot now, I have to go and slay.
