Ghengis, ask any fairly skilled player and they will tell you that people are just good. I feel bad for the people you banned who you thought were cheating, cause I've been in their position many times. The sad thing is you don't even have to play good and people will still think you cheat. That's why this community is so fucked up, because of people like you.

I still dont get why anyone believes STEAM was leaked? It came out the day Valve said it was going to come out (for once it really did). The supposed leak came right from Valves site. Lastly, can anyone show me one email or website where Valve themselves publically state it was leaked? I think not..

rgr tech 9, I myself, while I don't consider myself cal-i quality, am one of those above average players. I've participated in league play at cal-m for some time now, and taken place in enough tournaments (even won) enough that I know fairly well if somebody is cheating. Trust me, not alot of people cheat anymore, and the only people you really do see cheat are people who are blatantly h4xing to rage newbies. I get kicked from alot of servers, even my local Inet cafe's server, that I guess most people don't get this. Sorry if this post sounded concieted, its just the plain truth :/

Exactly. People need to understand that the range of skill in counter-strike is varied.

Even though valve hasn't updated their anti cheat in ages (at least I don't think they have), there arent very many people cheating at all. Actually, I've only come across one cheater in the past 3-4 months, and he was blatant about it.

Think before you do! You're dealing with a big community and the next time you decide to release something this major to a community that has over 10,000 players per day make sure you get it right.
Go to gametiger and check out how many people are playing cs at the moment. It's a constant 50,000 people, now average 1 hour for everyone and thats 1,200,000 people a day. way more than 10,000. I can't understand how this idjit gets public attention. He is obviously not a cs fan and has no relevant opinion about anything that should concern cs.

BETA... he should look up the word and try to figure out why he has a mouth and shouldn't be talking out of his asshole.

Steam worked great for me. only problem i had was steam was on C:/ and cs was on D:/ which was fixed in 5 minutes. took me 45 minutes to download all the mod updates and steam has crashed on me once out of about 30 games. I think this will do great thing's for the cs community and the gaming community overall.

the only other spiteful thing i have to say isn't that bad. I hope Virtuoso dies of cancer and his family dies before he dies of cancer so he can feel the way we all did reading his fucking worthless article.

That article is not even all true; didn't even mention that STEAM was leaked; and not publically released yet. (which goes against his points about not being able to find the beta on the site... would solve the problem right there)

STEAM does not eat up all your bandwith (unless your on 56k) I was downloading really slow, .5 mbyte a minute.

No big deal just another update? Heh... this guy is clearly not a CS fan.

I'm wondering what kind of computer and connection this guy had that it took him 2 days to download 1.6; once my downloads started it took roughly 2 hours and that's because the servers were SLOW not sucking up my bandwith.

I find it amazing that there is all this stink about Steam 2.0 beta. Does no one remember that 1.5 came out at first with Steam 1.0 beta? I have played both and I can say that the 1.0 beta was more stable and had less server problems. I guess it might have been because it was not as publicized as 2.0. Or it might be that Valve tried to incorperate too many new 'features' into Steam 2.0.

The article did seem like a bash on Valve and CS. As for the adds that he was talking about, I have yet to see them. I think that if Valve was smart the next CS update and Stream beta should be a closed beta and not let the entire CS community go out and try it.

Actually, I have "read up on it" on various web sites that did talk about steam being leaked. But like I said, show me once where Valve themselves said this. It doesnt matter if ten million web sites say it, Valve never said it once anywhere. It was never true. It was a bad way to start a beta test, and thats all. Not the fault of people leaking it. It was released on purpose, not leaked.

It was released by Fileshack before it was supposed to.

The release had nothing to do with VALVe it was purely Fileshack getting ahead of themselves.

At last, an article which voices the concerns of all the 13 year old deathmatch "aztec or dust only" CS generation. It cracks me up that he calls the software every name under the sun, but uses the word beta about 3 times. I guess he isn't very up on what a "beta test" usually entails; a small group of people testing software that is not on general release. Even though he moans in the article about how buggy it is, and how many "problems" it has caused him (oh dear, he had to wait a while to play a free game), he also moans that it isn't available at the Steam site for others to get hold of. I find it IMPOSSIBLE to moan at a beta test. The beta tester is meant to think objectively, and report back any problems to the Dev team; not decry the software for having a few issues. I know that Steam isn't anywhere near an acceptable stage, but Valve can't fix problems they don't know about, so the only way forward is for Steam users to report back, not belittle Valve's efforts...

It took me several hours too to get steam up and running, I got it in the half hour it was on the steamsite and by that time it was very slow, my dl speed hovered between 1.6KB/s and 4KB/s (no I'm not 56K)

Also if a reviewer is testing steam it seems a plausible thing to subscribe to all options to see if it works doesn't it?

Anyways it's clear the review was started to be written at a time it was very congested.

I also think you can say 'it's beta' and make a good point but you have to remember that as he said in the article steam 1 has been out a year and by now some of the issues that pop up in steam 2 should not be popping up after their experience with 1.

Not to mention how some issues are clear to aggravate people, like no possibility to use custom models or sounds, it won't even accept a custom titles.txt to fix the names of the guns.

And yes it was leaked, it was on one site and a while after mirrored by downloaders on other sites several hours before the steam site opened up the beta program.
