I have to agree with the ppl who have been saying that it was the mental states of the peeps invouded in this instedent!

i live in the UK and reguly go to i-events ! ( big gameing lan of about 900-1000 ppl )

and thats basicly 4 days of none stop drinking and cs ( or q3 or what ever ya game is ) and i never even seen anyone even though a punch ! at any of events i have atended let alone any one get hurt. and thats with hundreds of drunk peeps all showing off!!!.

unless you count some fat bitch rolling over you and sufercating ya in the night at 3am while ya all trying to sleep on the floor. as for vilonce in games causeing vilonce in RL is just bollox ! just take football games !!! or any other events where you have 2 sets of peeps with difo opionons, and your bound to get problems.

i think its dread full that this lad died and i have to say ! its the laws in the USA that caused this to. if it was not so easy to get hold of a gun then maybe he mite be alive today!!!

There's a reason stuff like this happens - people generally don't look beyond themselves. A murder over CS is one of the more pathetic examples, but not unsimilar to people who hunt people down for gang intiations or for being "dissed". Moral of the story - anyone who commits a violent crime against someone deserves absolutely no mercy, for they made a concious choice and thus have to deal with the consequence, wether it takes place in Canada, the US, or any other locale.

There are much stricter laws in Canada...so how did he get the handgun is the first question.

that's one of the subjects in bowling for columbine (didnt see the movie, but I know what it is about). Canada has much higher gun ownership, but they have way less gun-related violence

Sorry no pity here. Bragging like that isn't my thing and is general is part of what is wrong with CS.

I prefer to brag as a form of motivating my team. Kind of a catch me if you can thing. That way we can push each other.

Wait, so people are stupid if they blame a game but they're right on the money if they blame guns, pop culture (which games are a part of, STUPID argument), or other people? Wow, great! Blaming is really working out so well.

Also the shooting happened in Canada, and this one murder will represent more than 1% of the gun murders in Canada since there are less than 100 gun murders in Canada per year. And Canada is a hunting country, please don't act like gun control is rampant there.

edit: I re-wrote my post because I'm cool.
where does it say that they are stupid if they blame games? taking what someone has said and exaggerating it to ridiculousness isn't very nice. and taking one or two weak parts of someone's argument and basing your retort on it isn't very clever either.

you know what he was saying because it has been said 2,000,000 times before; that video games are not the only cause of any violence that revolves around them. you can't argue with it because it is most likely true, so instead you say that he was implying that video games in fact were completely innocent. he did not say that.

                  for the rest of you:
As the exchange of words escalated, three young men from another computer screen rushed over and grabbed him by the collar. They were about to punch him when others intervened, said Albert Wahyono, a friend of the Kwee family.

Mr. Kwee and his teammate were relieved when the men turned and ran out the door. But the losing teammates came back moments later, pushed Mr. Kwee into a corner and started to beat him up. A shot was fired and they fled.
they probably brought the gun after the first beating, but it is just as likely that they had it the whole time.

Canada did implement a lot stricter gun laws i believe last year. However, it doesnt mean that the guns just disappeared. Obviously people still have them, just now they have licences for them, or some do at least.

I blame the parents of the shooter. The shooter had a lack of respect for human life. That respect should of came from the parents teaching their child good morals. Obviously this kid had none. If everyone had good morals and a respect for human life there would be no murders.

This incident reminds me of a point made some time ago about not being able to settle a dispute out in the parking lot man to man without weapons. Ya you might get your ass beat but at least you get to lick your wounds and show up for another day.

Nowadays, you either get stabbed or shot because they are too big a pussy to handle it with their fists. You might claim fighting is childish but alot of times it's healthy to let out your anger with your fists. You can shoot anyone easily but you can't whip everyone.

The article said the guy tried to fight him but his buddies broke it up. That's when he went over the line and went and got his gun. Had they just fought with their fists, whoever lost could of showed up the next day to either play some more or talk more crap and get beat down again. Guns are for pussies that can't fight IMHO.

I certainly hope that you are referring to a different comment, or maybe you didn't even read the newspost.. something, because the fact that someone as insensitive and ignorant as you even exists, quite frankly, scares me.

I disagree with everything you just said. Well, mostly. I do agree with you that in some cases, it is often the parent's fault if there son/daughter kills someone, i.e. : most school shootings. However, this incident is completely different. You can't say that this person had no respect for human life, he most likely just got caught up in the moment, and in a heat of rage he took things too far. I am by no means condoning his actions, and I think that he should definitely be held accountable, but I think it's... well, stupid to come to that conclusion. As for the last sentence.. welcome to Naivete, population: you. (man I'm hilarious and original)

I suppose it shouldn't surprise me that you would say this, based on your first paragraph. Why try to settle our disputes in an intelligent manner without violence when we can duke it out and show our manliness?

Hey, i live in the Philippines and there are over 1000+ LAN cafes in Manila, because the majority of the people here cant afford to buy computers lol. There was a shooting almost about a year ago here because a girl was kicking some guy's ass at cs, he pulled out a knife and stabbed her to death. : / Its just a matter of ppl being high tempered while having a lethal weapon on them, it can happen because of any reason.

OT: rofl they took the PCs that the victim and the suspects used hahaha

Actually, you know what? There was a hockey dad that got upset and killed a coach or a ref because he thought the coach or ref was unfair. I'm not exactly sure when/where, but I've heard of it.

The thing is, stuff like this happens in all sports, cybersports, or otherwise.
If there was ever a game that condoned fighting, it's hockey. We lose more games because of 5 minute penalties to half our team than to goals. I'm not sure if I just play on a team of jackasses or what, but everytime they step on the ice they feel like they have to prove they're men by somehow punching another kid in the face and ruining the game for everyone involved. Not to mention, hitting someone while you're wearing full body protection isn't exactly macho if you ask me.

not meaning to sound like an arsehole, but no one has been shot in a UK LAN Cafe... and we have gun control laws. It's like school rules - they may seem gay when you are there but actually there is a good reason for it.
Good one Anist. Now check your Government's own official statistics, and you will see that all violent crimes, except for murder, are higher now that guns are banned. This includes assaults with handguns, robberies, etc. The rate for murder has remained constant since the disarmament. These statistics are available from the general ledger, as of fall 2002.
