Just curious where did the kid get shot? I mean did he get shot in the leg like that noob from that tournment? And who is to say that we are all not affected by life its self. I still agree with the fact that the kid was mentally unstable and shouldnt of been playing Counter Strike and oh yea he probally sucked at the game too.... becouse he got all affended by comments that were only supposed to stay in the game. I dont agree with what Willa said becouse if we all were supposedly "affected" by violent video games then we all would be running around shooting and killing each other..

oh yea and [int3rnil] i really think that people like you that say such inconsiderate things, are the people that start episodes that cause these unfortunate turn of events. So grow the fuck up and listen to what you are saying, no one deserves to die becouse of a set back in a video game.

                -:Nighthawk:- wrote..

First off. It seems that many people here are under the impression that only crazed, derranged psychopaths with naturally violent tendencies commit murders. We have kaxman claiming that the influence of his parents (and all parents in general) was so important that no circumstances could come close to having that level of impact on his decisions.

Unfortunately, things aren't that simple. If I locked kaxman in a room, and did whatever I wanted to him (assuming I'm somewhat evil), eventually chances are that I could evoke such a hatred in him of myself (and possibly others) that he would most definitely seize the opportunity to kill me and liberate himself, should the situation arise. Even deeply held beliefs can often be torn apart by the right set of circumstances and accompanying emotions.
That is most likely true. However...if I came off sounding like that, that wasn't really my intention. No game on earth should be able to inspire that degree of hatred. In a situation like this murderer was in, I have no doubt that the values instilled in me by my parents would win out. No matter how bad the rest of my life was going, there is no excuse for killing someone over a computer game.
Any way you look at it, though, the killer in this case simply went way too far. He shouldn't have had a weapon, and the fact that he did denies him any ability to say this was anything other than premeditated murder. He was carrying the gun because he was willing to use it, and so it went.
                Exactly.
I don't know, I find all of this incredibly saddening, yet somehow almost unsurprising. One day, I hope to see a world where this isn't the reality we're faced with. I don't see that coming about any time soon, however. :-\
A depressing thought, but unfortunately probably a true one.

i agree with nighthawk hes so right on that issue. i do believe that one dark day we will end up destroying ourselves in a very depressing way, these video games might have a small effect on some of us, but the true thing is that of us. Only we can pull the trigger not the video game, to be able to figure out whats fiction and non-fiction is up to that certain person. i dont believe that a video game tells us what to do. it only influences some of us. most "human" people know whats right and wrong...

Then define "right" and "wrong". You don't even know the difference between the apostrophe key and your ass.

One dark day, humanity WILL go up in flames. If the lot of you monkeys can press a post button and produce results like this, i have no doubt that at least one of you will go on to jackassedly press the nuke launch button.

In response to Kaxman's original opinion and any similar ones:

I am not suggesting that everybody who plays any violent game is going to feel like killing someone cos they lost in the game, I am merely stating that these games make people more violent. I totally agree that the shooter probably did have an already violent personality, but playing CS or any other violent game is not gonna make him any less of a violent person is it? I personally have not become so violent to feel like killing somebody, that is just the extreme of what can happen.

I am not suggesting either that parenting has nothing to do with this matter. Indeed, the way these people have been brought up greatly affects their view on life. Violent games however, do influence these people psychologically, making them more violent short-fused people. It is a fact we have to live with, one which I first faced up to in this documentary a couple of years ago. Before I thought that these games were innocent fun, but now I can assure you that they are not!

                      JdeFalconr:

The experiment details are not totally accurate, my memory of it is hazy. But I can guarantee you that this experiment was performed with many volunteers and all produced the same result: An increase in violent mentality.

The man with the word list may not have been the guy who played the violent game but this matter is also irrelevant. It does not matter on the frequency of which the man was punished, it is the time for which he was punished which matters. The investigator and the other volunteers were simply told to punish this man as long as they deem a suitable punishment, and the results were conclusive with the hypothesis.

Perhaps a more interesting test would have been the Milgram Obedience tests, which could be performed in a similar fashion. The experiment was carried out such that a man was once again told to memorise words or something similar and then the volunteer had to administer an electric shock of greater intensity each time he got it wrong. The volunteer was told by Milgram that they didnt have to listen to him at all, and they did what they felt was right - only that each successive shock must be greater than the last.

The test was to see if any of the volunteers would obey these rules and keep shocking as to kill the man. None did, but quite a few reached the level where the man dropped unconscious, entering into an eerie silence. By applying this method, I wonder how far people would go before and after violent game experience. Of course this experimentation is outlawed by human rights etc etc.

I would like to thank you all for your feedback on my comment. I appreciate conflicting opinions and I hope I have justified my reasoning to these people.

Kaxman, I hope I don't need to go as far as saying that maybe you have blinded from the truth as well (well I just said it). I have full confidence you will never kill a person over a violent game. But I would not believe you if you said that violent games had not affected your mentality in any way.

There's something that's typically overlooked in a case like this: What does it look like from the other side? Sure, school shootings, things like this, just look at the end result and place blame haphazardly. Why not? Saves you the trouble of having to put any real thought into it. How are you people any different from the people blaming videogames? Being so quick to condemn one side makes you just like them. You're trying to cover your own asses, nothing more.

One side went too far in his violence. The other went too far in his obnoxiousness. What other factors were involved in this situation? Pfff. Who cares, huh?
Good point Mouth. I agree, it's easy to get caught up on one side of this affair and not even recognize any wrongs done on the other side. Honestly it looks to me like this murder was mostly one-sided but I think you have a good point that we should try looking at things from the opposite perspective...perhaps there was something different or something more that Mr. Kwee could have been done.

Maybe its because im an insensitive prick.. or maybe its because im just an asshole. But i dont really care that he got shot.. not like im saying im glad he did, but if it didnt happen to anyone i knew or in my city. I dont really care. I would also like to know what a gun was doing in an internet cafe. Oh well sick fucks like me out in this world. 1000's of people die each year in the US do to shootings but theres never an article on that. I dont care if it was about CS which it probably was because its a frustrating game. I have broken 2 keyboards and my poor optical logitech mouse playing CS. And i dont need to chill out i need marijuana to be legalized. BLOW me you anti-drug fucks. If the US put as much money and effort into catching terrorists, maybe we would get them. I love the US

Like I said, since when has playing well and being a bit boastful about it been grounds for murder? These aren't "wrongs" done, they're the normal reaction people have to doing really well.

I really don't understand how you can sympathize with the murderer in a case so blatantly wrong as this. There's a vast difference between extreme wrongs done to a person, and a bit of humiliation.

I go by the bible. Some people go by the law. No matter which commonly accepted definition of right and wrong you pick, however, they all condemn acts such as this, without exception. Thank you for the wonderful elloquence in that second sentence, however. I'm sure that was in there for some good reason... or not.
